Grew up with Tx Country. I was at A&M from 01-05. Started with Pat and Cory in late 90s in HS in Houston.

I went to see Cory Morrow at a pretty lame event in Leander a few months ago. Super hot, a lot of old people, man he still put on a great show. His whole family was there, all is kids playing in front of the stage. He rocked out and engaged the otherwise quiet crowd.

I mean I was a fan for life before, but it was great to see him after not seeing him play for over a decade or so.

Never in my life have I waited in line for an artist, athlete, celebrity etc but I did after this show(I mean it was only like 10 min) but I got a pic with him and shook his hand. His music, along with all of the other guys mentioned in this thread, have been a big part of my life.

That's a shame. Saw Bleu Edmondson there back around 2001-2002 and the dude played for 3 hours straight without a break. Impressive and energetic show.

Everyone was there. All those guys, Randy Rogers too.

Reckless Kelly - Under the Table and Above the Sun
Cory Morrow - Full Exposure Live

maybe the most underrated album out of the whole "TX Scene" from the past 25 years.

As far as best live album from TX scene Roger Creager's Live Across TX is hard to beat. The production, musicianship, and quality is excellent. Stoney's Live at BB is also near the top as far as live records.

I think Bleu may be trying to dip his toe back in music as well. I saw he was in the studio this past week with Wade Bowen.

Agreed on both. The Creager album captures him at his peak, the Stoney album is very underrated. Not a big Stoney fan, but can listen to that one front to back.

I wish Pat had done another live album after he released Carry On and before 3 Days to get him at his best before he "sold out"

Turnpike played Ohana festival yesterday in SoCal and they brought Cody Canada out on Long Hot Summer Day. It was kind of weird because I assume only 1/4 of the crowd knew who Turnpike was and even less who Cody Canada was.

I'm not ashamed to admit I would pay a stupid amount of money to see them live again. Not Taylor Swift prices, but well more than I should
Take me back to the days where you paid like $10-20 to see this bands in some bar like the Hall of Fame.
Got to see them for free in '04 at Harry's while working CARPOOL. I got pegged to go to the concert to help set up rides for people that needed them, but while the concert was going on, they let me and the other guy into the show, and I had a great time until it was over and we began working with dispatch.

And I'll put Chilifest 2004's lineup against any other out there as the best. From what I remember the lineup was:
Honeybrowne
Ryan Bingham
Randy Rodgers
Jason Boland
Cross Canadian Ragweed
Pat Green
Sammy Kershaw
George Jones

The full lineup is probably here if you have an account to go into their archives:
https://theeagle.com/archives/music-02-05-2004/article_eea10370-64bf-55b0-b8d7-421ef4599345.html

I feel seen right now, as the youths would say. I was at the first Chilifest, the one where it rained really bad.

Man the music scene in 00-06 was fun in CS. I hope they have tables to sit at ! LOL

Oh, and we saw cross Canadian open for ZZ Top in Houston. 03? Absolute best performance I had seen from them. They rocked everyone's faces off.

I mean people in their 30s and 40s were born into a world where Credence Clearwater Revival had already stopped performing. You have to be 52 or older to have even been alive the last time they performed.

Or those of us that are 40 are smart enough to know that literally one of the greatest bands of all time were already called that.

And that cross Canadian ragweed were a good country band but for from great.

Go yell at clouds somewhere else. This thread is about Cross Canadian Ragweed (damn, that took forever to type out... lets try shortening it... CCR, ahh that's better) getting back together and hosting an epic Red Dirt concert.

I just looked up hotel reservations for that weekend in Stillwater and I couldn't find availability anywhere.

ETA: ended up booking a hotel in OKC for the weekend.....just in case I can get some tickets

I've got bad news for a lot of y'all.

Pay attention and you'll see that Great Divide is also on this ticket, which means that Mike McClure still has influence on the band. Why is this a big deal? He produced some of the most disappointing records in history. If you'll listen to Live and Loud and the Wormy Dog and juxtapose that with some of the later Ragweed records you'll see that he essentially neutered the band with a bunch of phaser and terrible guitar tech and gimmicks. He's an awful producer and in my opinion, led to the downfall of the band.

The reason people loved Ragweed is because it was the first hybrid of Texas Country AND Southern Rock. It was loud, different, and cool and served as the springboard for a lot of us to discover bands like the Drive by Truckers, Slobberbone, Centromatic, Lucero, etc.

McClure took it, diluted the parts that made it great, and made it sound soft.

I have high hopes for this, but I've seen Cody and the Departed a few times, and...... it wasn't good. And this is coming from someone who was a HUGE fan of Ragweed.

wtf you talking about. Purple, Soul Gravy, Garage, mission cali. all prduced by Mcclure. Wormy Dog record was literally the second "album" they had. and it was live. and they were like 20. Give me a break.

McClure didn't dilute anything. He was huge in developing there rocking sound. I'll admit I didnt care for the last couple albums as the early ones, but I contribute that more to the fact the band was going through crap and the dudes were getting older, married, kids, etc. No band sounds and stays the same over the years.

and of course Cody isn't going to sound as good as he did when he was 24. That was 20 years ago.

I saw the Departed open for Turnpike one time, and at the end of the Turnpike set, they brought CC out to sing Boys From Oklahoma as the encore. They were all so hammered, including Cody, that none of them could remember the words.
