Just finished Morning Star after reading Golden Son last month. Both were great and really fun reads. I think I'm going to take a break from this series though as I really liked how the third book ended.

Nooooooo ; keep going!!!!! I've read that series 3 times now; can't wait for the next book to drop
I honestly liked how book three ended. I started book 4 but it just did not hook me like the earlier books so have not made it very far.

Thought the ending to the third book was great. I'm worried Darrow is going to piss me off in the 4th book and ruin the series for me lol

If he hasn't pissed you off yet, I don't know what he will can to do get you there. Seriously, I don't think I've ever seen a main character/leader make so many wrong, stupid, selfish decisions and still have a following. That said, I've read all of them so far and anxiously wait for the next one to be published.

Let's just say one of those Darrow decisions in the third book nearly made me rage quit and throw my kindle into a wall. Like I said, really enjoyed how the book ended but I need a break from that dude.

Trust me ; 4 starts slow but gosh by end of 4 and all through 5-6 it's AWESOME.

You probably haven't even met The Minotaur, Volsung Faa, Diomedes, or Atlas yet… keep going

I stopped after the original 3, but for whatever reason assumed that it would end at 6. Is there a forecast in terms of expected number of books to end the series? Seems like I'm stuck in a half dozen incomplete series right now, and it's kind of frustrating at times rotating through and then hitting the end point of all of them until the next book in one series gets released. And of course, forgetting how the last one ended from a year or two before...

#7 Drops in Summer 2026 I believe and it may be 2 parts; there's a lot to close out, title is "Red God".

I am planning a reread again in 2026 before #7 comes out.

If they ever made this series into a movie or
Miniseries I think it would take substantial AI to make it work.

I also highly recommend the audiobook; the narration is really good. And they use a couple of different readers depending on the Chapter and the 1st Person narration, so as not to confuse the reader/listener on whose first person it is.

Three ended very well. Have read through five and didn't like four or five. My wife and I have little to no hope for it finishing well. At this point I'm waiting for it all to be wrapped up (for reviews from friends) to decide if we purchase the rest or just drop 4 and 5 off at half price and pretend they don't exist.

Revival by Stephen King. This book was extremely gripping and almost impossible for me to put down and is instantly a top 4 King for me out of what I've read of his works.

I read this one not long ago. It is really good and underrated. It doesn't get mentioned nearly as much as it should amongst his other popular works (The Shining, The Stand, Pet Sematary, etc).

A quick check in at page 500 of Lonesome Dove. Slightly past the halfway mark. I admit it started slow for me. Part of the problem was I started it after devouring all 7 books of Dungeon Crawler Carl. So the pacing, prose, story was a complete 180 from where I just was. But I also knew it has received too much praise not to wait it out. And holy hell I love this book. The character development is absolutely masterful. The writing and character dialogue feels so absolutely real and natural, and smart. The consistency is amazing. I honestly feel totally immersed into the period, and have looked at it at such a different angle than you get with glitzy westerns like Hollywood and even Lous L'Amour. I'm not going to want this to end, enjoy the escape too much. Can not wait to watch the series. I know the other three books are not on the same level. But don't care. Going on the entire journey.

I'm so glad you stayed with it through the slow start. I have friends who didn't last and they missed out!

Regarding the bolded -- as good as any book I've ever read.

Super not great book. Actually mad I forced myself to the end. I need to get better at DNF'ing books earlier, especially when I am not really vibing with them in general, like this one. I am now under .500 with books I enjoyed by Stephen King. Such a polarizing author to even me. I either really like his stuff, or really don't. Seems like such a coin flip.

Recently finished Prophet Song by Paul Lynch. I am not a voracious reader, but dang this book was even more of a slog to get through... couldn't wait to just be done w/ it (it is a Booker Prize winner, 2023).

Started reading my first Steven King novel, The Institute. ~60 pages in and I like it so far.

A couple of days ago I finished a reread of all the Murderbot Diaries and started Starter Villain by John Scalzi. It was a very quick read and just finished it yesterday. It was very quick to finish and a fun book. Lots of laughs and not serious at all. These were a good break.

The Butcher's Masquerade (Dungeon Crawler Carl #5)

Our Evil Dead: Adrian's March, Part Seven (Adrian's Undead Diary Book #15)
For anyone still reading AUD, which started somewhere around 25 years ago, I thought this was the final novel in the series because it was being advertised as 15 of 15 which I misinterpreted as the final book. However, there is clearly one more left.

Anyway, this is arguably the best zombie series ever written but this final push to get the series over the finish line was clearly just thrown together with way less thought than prior novels. Really feels like Chris Philbrook just wants to be done with this and get it over with. It flat out wasn't edited with numerous grammar mistakes and misspelled words. Very sloppy. Still enjoyable but nowhere near the quality as the prior books. Guess I'll be glad to get this series behind me since Philbrook clearly wants to.

Regarding Joe Abercrombie, I've read every First Law novel and it looks like he has finally left that universe and as his new novel coming out this year looks to be more fantasy/magical based. It's called The Devils.

I think Dean Koontz is more like this than King.

Even when King is off, I still feel there's some redeeming storytelling.

For Koontz, sories like Watchers and Odd Thomas are great.

But I've been mad after finishing some Koontz books that feel like they were written for a paycheck.

House of Thunder anyone?

And then there is Clive Barker who just flat out stopped writing. He has some all-time horror/fantasy stuff for anyone who has never read it. His run in the 80s and 90s was spectacular.
