Did you ever notice that the best entertainment in the history of our world always has Michael Ironside in it?
V
Starship Troopers
Total Recall
Top Gun
X-Men: First Class
Watchers
Extreme Prejudice
Darkseid in Justic League Unlimited
And from his Wikipedia:
Ironside has survived cancer of the bowel, prostate, and thyroid.

For the record, I've never heard of "ScreenGeek," and this news isn't being picked up/reported by literally anyone else. I'm not saying it's not true, and I wouldn't be surprised if a reboot is in the works, but the chances of a rinky-dink, no-name site breaking this news are pretty slim.
New 'Starship Troopers' Movie in the Works from 'District 9' Filmmaker Neill Blomkamp (Exclusive) https://t.co/y0Vttcf7lG

Sony is behind the new adaptation, which is not a remake of Paul Verhoeven's 1997 film, but rather will go back to the 1959 novel as source material.
I will be good with this if it turns out to be true. The original movie was fun enough but really wasn't the book. This actually sounds similar to what John Carpenter did when he remade The Thing, which wasn't so much a remake of the 1951 movie but was more an accurate adaptation of the 1938 novella Who Goes There?TCTTS said:TCTTS said:

Turns out, ScreenGeek actually knew something, just not quite the details yet. Either way, we can consider it "official" now...New 'Starship Troopers' Movie in the Works from 'District 9' Filmmaker Neill Blomkamp (Exclusive) https://t.co/y0Vttcf7lG

I always enjoyed the movie for the campy crap that it was. It's akin to Mars Attacks to me.
It's going to be interesting to see how true to the "source material" Blonkamp adheres to. This is one of those stories that still using the source material with tweaks could make it more left biased, screeching about being anti-Fascist which has been all the rage regardless of actual definition and practice.
If done correctly, it could be a very thought provoking movie.

I have read the book and seen the movie a few times. It was an entertaining movie, but it was not the book. I'd like to see a movie that aligns more closely to the book.
Biggest gripe that took me out of the movie was Denise Richard's being impaled through her shoulder right before picking up a machine gun to mow down some bugs.
I was so looking forward to that.Chips2003 said:Cinco Ranch Aggie said:

No. The worst part of that movie, was they left out the whole thing that made them Mobile Infantry, THE SUITS!!!
Mobile Infantry were soldiers in powered suits, shot out of the side of a spaceship (like a cannon) to the planet surface below. They were shock troops, total surprise for whoever you were attacking.
And they just ignored it all. Still pisses me off.
Yep.maroon barchetta said:

It's been done many times those, most notably by Cameron in both Aliens and Avatar.
I mean the suits in Avatar are a direct rip off of the infintry suits in Starship Troopers.

Not surprising with Avatar since the whole movie ripped off from other things.
Pretty sure Kevin Costner didn't go into an Indian body so that he could live in the plains.maroon barchetta said:

Novel wise it was done superbly by John Steakley in Armor. That book is great.
Cameron takes a lot of inspiration from Asia. The remote body concept has been done in movies and shows in Japan quite a bit I feel like, and considering one such title is Battle Angel Alita that Cameron actually adapted some of into a live action movie I think it's far to say he isn't the progenitor of the idea.Rudyjax said:I got that. Avatar, being a man put in control of alien body.
Because that is not something I've seen before.
I'm sure it's been done in literature, but if he stole the whole movie, where was that from?

He also said that Avatar's story was inspired by Princess Mononoke.
Like many movies, he took inspirations from a multitude of places. I think his stuff gets **** on by some just because his movies seem overhyped and so some people are going to push back.
Similar but different IMHO.Fenrir said:
I'm a little interested to see if the Starship Troopers remake and the announced Helldivers adaptation will end up releasing around the same time considering both would be made by Sony and Helldivers is heavily inspired by Starship Troopers itself.
