I have read the book and seen the movie a few times. It was an entertaining movie, but it was not the book. I'd like to see a movie that aligns more closely to the book.

Biggest gripe that took me out of the movie was Denise Richard's being impaled through her shoulder right before picking up a machine gun to mow down some bugs.

No. The worst part of that movie, was they left out the whole thing that made them Mobile Infantry, THE SUITS!!!

Mobile Infantry were soldiers in powered suits, shot out of the side of a spaceship (like a cannon) to the planet surface below. They were shock troops, total surprise for whoever you were attacking.

And they just ignored it all. Still pisses me off.
I was so looking forward to that.

It's been done many times those, most notably by Cameron in both Aliens and Avatar.

I mean the suits in Avatar are a direct rip off of the infintry suits in Starship Troopers.

The crap in Avatar is nowhere near what Starship Troopers was supposed to be. If think that, you need to go reread Starship Troopers. For one they were like a spacesuit pressurized, with your own atmosphere, no wearing a stupid mask in the suit.

Novel wise it was done superbly by John Steakley in Armor. That book is great.

Yes! Excellent book. Would make an absolutely incredible movie if done right.

It was 35 years ago but I thought it was similar.
