Tarantino thread had me thinking, so before I lose my train of thought, I have:

1. Inglourious Basterds - Tavern scene
2. Up - Opening scene
3. Mad Max: Fury Road - Furiosa going rogue chase scene
4. Get Out - The sunken place
5. Lost In Translation - End scene

I'm sure I'm missing a ton. There are a ton of comedies and Marvel movies that will make me rethink this, but wondering what everyone else has.

This board..."Peter Jackson...all scenes from FOTR, TT, and ROTK"

I was crazy fond of the F14 scene in Maverick.

The plane crash scene in 1917

Really like the ending sequence with Vader in Rogue One.

Airport scene in Captain America: Civil War.

It's really impressive to have that many characters interacting across such a huge space and you never lose track of where people are in relation to each other. They mix and match people and locations so well.

I'm always impressed with one-take shots, ie. Birdman, 1917, Childern of Men etc

Another that I thought if was the ending battle in Avengers Endgame, from the moment we hear Falcon say to Cap "on your right" up to the moment when Iron Man pulls the fast one on Thanos, says "and I am Iron Man", and snaps his finger. But that might have been more the result of editing.

I don't have the good taste to know what a best directed scene might look like,

but I know one very simple scene which has had an enduring influence decades later

with most every man, finding himself in green fields with the sun on their face, imitating the action.

IDC if that movie was derivative or a subversive recruiting propaganda tool...Top Gun: Maverick should've won Best Picture that year and that scene was THE scene.

The Road to Perdition "I'm glad it's you." scene directed by Sam Mandes.

/edit: Didn't want to spoil the line for those who haven't seen the movie.

I'm would second the opening in Up. One of the best sequences in any movie, that they pulled it off in a kids movie makes it even more remarkable. A few others…

The scene in JoJo Rabbit where he finds his mom. The way they flip that scene from joy and innocence to what it became is amazing.

The opening, scene in Casino Royale. It re-set the entire franchise to a more gritty Bond, and did it with an amazing action scene.

The "crashing" plane and then final airport scene in Almost Famous.

The buildup to and the ceasefire scene in Children of Men is an all timer. (That whole movie is just a flex IMO)

Some personal favorite additions for me:

the docking scene in Interstellar

The end sequence of Inception

The Hong Kong assassin chase in Skyfall

The Pale Man scene in Pans Labyrinth

The fight in Blade Runner 2049

The darth Vader at end scene in Rogue One

"Not my Tempo" from Whiplash

I'm sure I'll think of a few more

So many scenes from The Godfather Universe . Too many to even mention. But how can anyone forget Michael settling all Corleone business near the end of 1 juxtaposed with the baptism . I mean that was sheer perfection and Im not sure it'll ever be topped.

My wife and I were watching some disaster movie she was in early in her career. My wife recognized her but couldn't place her. I said "I think that's Alexandra Daddario."

My wife says "any time you recognize some good looking but not superstar-famous actress by first and last name, that usually means you've seen her topless in something."
