Good lord, I hope this stupid phrase dies a horrible painful death ASAP. So sick of it. Masculinity helps raise strong, stable confident children...keeps neighborhoods and communities safe and from falling apart...builds EVERYTHING around us that we take advantage on a daily basis, roofs your house, makes your car, fixes your car...we could go on and on and on.

Such a stupid buzz phrase.
masculinity != toxic masculinity

WTH is "toxic masculinity"? It's whatever some angry hardcore feminist who went $180k in debt for a useless liberal arts degree says it is lol.
Google Andrew Tate
Yeah, but there have always been extreme ****** bag exceptions like that..."toxic masculinity" is always used in a much broader sense. Basically a way to demean and spread hate against all men who aren't effeminate, passive/submissive liberals. Youre avg liberal feminist who used that teram probably thinks at least 50-60% of all men in this country are masculine///to a toxic degree. It's dumb. Especially considering that most of the men that these weirdos despise build their cars, their roads, roof their homes, keep socioety running and from basically fallina apart overnight.

Sorry, but I don't allow liberals to change the english language for me. I don't bow to their re-definition of man and woman and I won't let them make 2 words equivalent to 1 word.

The more that people defer to these idiotic definitions the more power they are voluntarily given.

Go to any area of any city where there are almost no fathers (aka masculinity) present. You will find much worse than suburban white kids who follow Andrew Tate and talk sh** online.

I agree, I just think the phrase "toxic masculinity" is stupid because they act like it is some pervasive societal bogeyman. There is just masculinity. Then there are assh*les and d00shbags...same as always.

But masculinity is what saves people from rising floodwaters, helps people broken down or with a flat on the side of the road, makes sure we all have electricity and gasoline available at all times, makes sure we have groceries on the shelves, and keeps us safe from foreign adversaries. Feminists (both male and female) that screech about "toxic masculinity!" are pretty much useless to society.

This is so disappointing. I watched the first 2 episodes and was shocked at how good the camera work/one take stuff was. Then I came here and read the real story. 2 episodes is as far as I go with this one.

We binged it last night, gripping stuff, thought it was well done and acting superb. Some slow spots but outstanding camera work. Today's kids are a different breed and I pray for my grandkids that they can live through their teen years

This show is not a documentary, it's a story that was loosely inspired by a few different events the creators read about.

I've seen it, and while the single shot is an interesting aspect to the series and some of the camera is amazing, the storyline itself isn't really compelling or enlightening. They show you the murder from the beginning and then don't show any twists or turns for the next 3 episodes. The takeaway is that if a British girl turns down a British boy for a date, then he kills her. Seems pretty ridiculous honestly.

I thought it was very well done. The one shot stuff was really interesting to me, and some of the scenes had some of the best acting I've seen.

That being said - this thing packs a huge emotional punch if you're a parent with kids in the middle to high school range, or younger that will be there eventually. The concept of nuclear families doing the very best they can and something still going horribly wrong with 1 kid and not the other is also interesting.

The hand wringing on this thread is a joke and frankly just soft. Put your politics down for just a sec. If you like good acting, and interesting camera work, it's great.

Now F16 me lol. Great show.

You seem to have stopped watching it because a not true story isn't based on a true story which is…a take.

But there's also half a dozen plus other posts complaining about how it's not following the true story it's not about (not to mention the usual posters creating entire scenarios about imaginary people and what they think).

So, ya know, "y'all".

Could also be because the Brit English is difficult to understand and I worked with real juevnile offenders for 2 years, before i dealt with adult offenders, to inlude ones in for murder, and serious $e%ual Assault, some where as young as the boy portrayed in the show with victims the same age. I don't have to guess how this ends. I know exactly how this ends.

I don't watch prison movies, I don't watch "lock up" or "scared straight" or "gang land" or any of that either.

So, no not, y'all".

Fair enough, the way you phrased your initial comment made it sound like you weren't continuing because of the fact it wasn't following a story you thought it was about. Sorry for lumping you in with the other group.

Upon reflection, this miniseries isn't enough of any one thing to be totally positive about it.

Sometimes too intentionally clever, and sometimes not subtle at all. Disjointed.

If the uncertainty and the unsettled feelings of the viewer were the point, then I'd hope the producers would own that. If not, then the show is about how one horrible event causes worlds to crumble. And if that was the point instead, then be up front about that.

I thought the aspect of one continuous shot was interesting, and pretty well done. Stephen Graham was good as the dad. And I'll echo everyone who says that the final scene is a terrific and terrible one.

My only political reaction is to say that, I hope the police and legal procedures portrayed are heavily fictionalized, otherwise any opinion I expressed on that topic would likely cause me to be arrested the next time I step foot in the UK.

Just finished it. Was intrigued by the one continuous shot thing for Episodes 1 and 2.
3 didn't move the story along at all and was a waste of an hour.
4 was literally them driving around, buying paint, and then crying, another waste of an hour.

Completely disappointed in the show. AppleTv shows like Blackbird are 10x the quality of this show.

No twists. Nothing unexpected. Last two episodes were just junk filler. This could have been a boring 2 hour movie instead of a boring 4 hour miniseries.

Synopsis: Another netflix dud...

This show reminds me of artsy films where everyone talks about how great it was but no one actually enjoyed the movie. I don't care it was sad or dark. But tell a compelling story. This didn't

Finished this show Friday night. Meh. The cinematography and acting were pretty good (though not as good as say Hitchcock's"Rope"). Other than that I didn't care for it. It was slow and plodding with lots of things introduced but not resolved. They could have told the same story in half the time.

Edited to add: I didn't know about the change of details until now. Seems to me that if they wanted to make a show based on a true story about toxic masculinity, and if that is a big problem, then they should have no problem doing just that. Changing it up the way they did, well, they're just attacking their own straw man and putting this miniseries firmly in the fiction/entertainment realm where it fell short for me.

I don't understand why they painted nonse on the van. Nowhere in the story did they say anyone was diddling any kids. Yes, I had to google what that word meant. I thought it was going to be some secret kid code, like in episode two. But, no. Just boredom. So much potential and build up and then nada.

I 100% believe an idiot kid would hear something from another idiot kid and think that's what happened with that family and then do that. I think it adds to the realism that this family has been completely shaken and marked by the people around them as "wrong".

lol this thread reads like satire. i was hoping to get an idea on whether this was worth checking out, and to be fair there were a handful of posts helpful in that regard. but holy s-, forget about what the internet is doing to kids, i'm worried about what it's doing to some of you. if you find yourself actually angered by the fact that a non documentary fictional story that took inspiration from multiple incidents didn't specifically feature a killer that was black like one of the real events, maybe it's time to log off twitter for a bit. last i checked, writers are still allowed to be inspired by something when creating a story while still having the freedom to write their, again, FICTIONAL story however they please. getting upset about this really feels like we're setting reason aside bc we want to be mad.

i did get a good laugh out of the comments about white males being the most discriminated group until i realized it wasn't supposed to be a joke. are we counting killers in fiction being white as discrimination now? i guess i was just one of the lucky white males to thus far have all that rampant discrimination miss me. i just want to reiterate that its not just children being negatively impacted by the internet and social media. i miss the pre social media days when people would be too embarrassed to make claims like that out loud in public

life is too short to be this angry and paranoid all the time

yall are entirely too stuck on this whole took inspiration from real events thing. taking inspiration is not the same thing as attempting a dramatic recreation. inspiration can also start you down a path that leads to something totally different. but you all know that already, we're just playing pretend because the outrage only works this way.

don't you guys already have a board for this culture wars bs? i'm sure those guys would love to hear all about the systematic boot on the white mans neck that this show clearly represents to you. this is silly

if this was supposed to be a documentary or even if it was supposed to be an actual dramatized reenactment of one specific event, which to my knowledge it isn't, then i'd agreee whole heartedly. but at the end of the day it's a work of fiction. i mean mickey mouse is 180 degrees from reality too

Just finished this.

Moral of the story:

1. Don't let your kid stay up until 1 am surfing the internet.

2. Don't let them have an instagram or social media account until they are 16.

3. Keep them out of shltti public schools. If you do put them in a public school, find one with great leadership, teachers, and parental involvement.

It's worked out great so far for my family. My kids ***** and moan about turning their phone in at bedtime, but IDGAS. The older ones actually thanked me later in life.

Wait…I was told it's a fictional story?

Now we're drawing morals from this "fictional" story?

If a show is trying to get you to draw morals from a 180 reversal of the truth…..it's propaganda.

Absurd.

I'll go ahead and draw moral conclusions from reality.
