The one knock against it is that, IMO, it's the least memorable in terms of action.
The bridge scene is legit action and pioneered Ethan running.

Mission Impossible is way more consistent than Bond in terms of what you get. The only one I'm not a fan of is MI:2, it's just a bit too silly for me. You can throw on any of the other MI movies and I'm game to watch it...Fallout is the best one, it's the pinnacle of what these movies can be. Bond on the other hand has awesome movies like Casino Royale and Skyfall, but the rest of the Daniel Craig movies aren't great IMO. Quantum of Solace, Spectre, and No Time to Die I've only watched once each. I've watched the MI movies way more over the years but I have seen Casino Royale and Skyfall as much as any of them. But also the Bond movies are different in general, it feels like every one of them has the need to reinforce how cool James Bond is. Ethan Hunt is way more stressed out in each MI film, he's got the world on his shoulders, he acts like a guy who never sleeps, he might be cool but that isn't the point of that character.
It's not blasphemy- and here's why.Quote:
Going to speak some blasphemy into this thread but I've never watched any of the MI movies since the first one many many years ago. I have this weird block where I've just never felt like watching them.
This thread made me decide to give it ago I've now watched 1-3. #1 I'm sure people like from a nostalgia standpoint but there are some weird plot things like why the villain shoots Claire instead of Ethan to get away. Also laughably the beginning lady walking up to the gate to get stabbed as well.
Number 2 I was literally laughing throughout it was awful in the best kind of way.
Number 3 was a step up in every single way and easily the best of the first 3 by a long long shot.

Finished number 4. It was kind of a standard ho hum spy thriller nothing that special about it for me.
3>4>>1>>>>>>>2
Didn't Brad Bird direct #4 (only previous experience was Pixar)? From a quick search McQ was brought in to tighten up the script.20ag07 said:It's not blasphemy- and here's why.Quote:

MI3 was the only one that had a writer-focused director.
In 2004 JJ Abrams actually still was that (and quite good at it-at the time).
1) Was De Palma- not a writer.
2) Was Jon Woo (like I think this farthest thing ever from a writer beyond like Jan de Bont or Roland Emmerich).
3)JJ, a writer on his first film direction, comes in and actually oversees making sure there is an actually good script, and it's good. Because that's what he's used to paying attention to.
4)Well, then JJ got too busy doing too much to care about scripts anymore, and just turned it over to his usual stable without caring any more bc he was doing 99 things.
5+-)McQuarrie takes it over, and does have some writing chops, but only works for Cruise ever, at all, and is like "whatever you want to do Tom".
3 is the only one where anybody (JJ) as a writer focused guy, to say "let's nail this script, and I can handle the action stuff".
JJ EP'ed #4, off a script from some of his Alias writers (not our favorite ones).Quote:
