I just saw a Chiron that said George Wendt has deceased, peacefully in his sleep last night. He was 76…

Cheers was my absolute favorite show growing up. My father and I would stop down after dinner and watch religiously for years
...take it easy on me, I'm a normal horn

My favorite TV show of all time and it's not close. The Diane years were nearly perfect television.

Vaya con Dios, George.

Can't watch all of that right now but my all time favorite was:
"What are you up to, Norm?"
to which he replied
"My ideal weight if I was 11 feet tall."

Also another classic gag was when the guy comes back to Cheers for the first time in like 12 years and stands at the door commenting on how it's just as he remembered it; nothing had changed.
The glasses, the stools, the picture on the wall behind Norm…..

Cheers is an all-timer. And George Wendt, along with being an incredible character, never seemed to turn down interviews or fan events.

Yeah, Cheers is probably top 3 for me, this sucks. He was such a great part of that show. So far we've lost him, coach, Kirstie Alley, and a bunch of the great supporting guest cast they had, like Harry Anderson (my single favorite episode is Pick a Con…Any Con).
But Wendt was the dry humor of the cast, Carla was the cynic, Woody and coach were the innocent optimists, Cliff the know all, Dianne then Frazier and Lilith were the educated sophisticated ones, Rebecca the well meaning clutz, and Sam the straight man against it all. Just so well put together, and he stood out even among such a great group, always stealing scenes. Even his final scene with Sam.

RIP George and thank you.

Damn. One of my favorite shows of all time & one of the best TV characters ever.

How's life treating you Norm?
Like a baby treats his diaper.

Also loved when Frederick Crane's first word was "NORM!!!"

I recently started rewatching Cheers from S1E1 and man that show really does hold up. And Coach was a sneaky good character.

Would also like to tip my cap to Bill Swerski Super Fan. RIP George.

The GOAT on a top all-time show. The first show I watched with my parents that then "became mine". The series finale was my freshman year at A&M and the subject of one of the greatest pranks I was ever involved in.

My freshman year roommate was dating a girl and she had come over to watch the series finale with us, but took a nap and made us promise to wake her up for the show.

While she was asleep, we set every single clock ahead 4 hours, including the watch on her wrist, got our neighbors on both sides and across the hall to do likewise - including two girls (we were at University Tower) who the GF was friends with, and both put on the clothes we typically slept in. At about 7:30 (11:30 in our room), we turned off all the lights and both acted like were going to sleep. She woke up when the big light went off and totally bought it and was LIVID that we didn't wake her up.

It was really funny right up until we told her it was a joke and she started screaming at my roommate in Chinese and left - so ironically we did watch it without her.

Gosh, this really makes me sad. It was also my favorite show and I have rewatched the series so many times, especially the first 4 or so seasons.

Back around 1990-91 a couple of the Houston stations had it on in syndication and 4 episodes came on back to back each weeknight. We watched it every night in my friends room across the hall in Aston Hall.

In high school early '90's, reruns came on at 10:30 and I'd watch until I went to sleep…hard to believe my parents let me have tv in my room and watch that late!

Loved all the characters and connected with them like no other show. The character development was perfect.

Letterman helped kill my sleep and grades in high school. It didn't come on until 11:30pm. But it was so much fresher than Carson at that point. Mid 80's Letterman was fantastic.

Good thing my parents went to bed early and were heavy sleepers.

Pretty sure I was late to Algebra more than half the time my junior year.

Sam: Beer, Norm?

Norm: Sure, why not? I've got time.

Thought the last episode was a great way to end it. Especially when the last thing Sam does is straighten the picture of Geronimo, which was added to the set in memory of Coach.

I don't think I've ever seen an episode of Cheers other than some clips (mainly of Norm). I was very little when it was out live and we weren't much of tv family in general.

Gonna sit down tonight and watch 1 or 2.

I rewatched the first five seasons or so on Netflix 2-3 years ago. My son watched a bit and said "how can they make a sitcom about people sitting around in a bar talking?"

It's not a bad question.

But they did it very successfully.

The episode when Sam went to Europe (I think) to find Diane after she left Frazier at the altar was quite memorable to me. He found her in a convent I think and she said "I was so sorry to hear about the Coach" with her voice cracking. I choke up every time and am kind of doing so now.

The other scene that always gets me with Coach is the one below. To me it was very touching and very sweet & spoke to how a man can love a woman & how a parent can love their child. I'm an old sap & don't care.

George Wendt on with Jason Alexander - arguably the 2 greatest NBC sitcom actors of all-time, together on Seinfeld from Season 4

At the time Thursday on NBC was a rerun of Cheers at 7 for its final season, Wings at 730, Cheers at 8, Seinfeld at 830, and LA Law at 9.
