Agreed on a lot of that - especially their reactions to hearing John.

Would love to see something like:

Being Led Zeppelin - covering LZ III, LZ IV and Houses of the Holy
Beyond (or something else) Led Zeppelin - covering the PG, Presence and ITTOD period

I don't think I could take Johns death though. Ugh.

I think they ended it just right to keep the upbeat story. Not only Bonham's death, the out of control road life and the death of Plant's son would change the whole feel of the film.

Jimi, SRV, Eddie, Brian May, Slash, Santana, Knopfler, David Gilmore???

It's not difficult to recognize great guitar, they have a sound and style that is as unique as any voice.
Eddie Van Halen playing on "Beat It" or Stevie playing on Bowie's "Let's Dance" for a couple of examples, are easy to recognize playing out of context (their bands) if you listen.

Born in 1982, and got a *very* late start on rock music. I have an indelible memory of being at friend's house over Christmas in ninth grade, and he played Eruption on his 3 Disc Aiwa Shelf System, which to me was the height of sonic coolness at the time. I didn't know a guitar could do that. Coincidentally, that night was the last time I got grounded...

Fast forward a year or so and I'm at another friend's house listening to his dad's vinyl collection, and we played Beat It. Thinking I was super cool, I said, "Man it would be awesome if Eddie Van Halen played this."

Without looking up, his dad goes, "That is Eddie Van Halen." I felt like Shooter McGavin

Well I was lucky enough to see the only time in history that Eddie played that LIVE with MJ.

The 1984 Jacksons Victory tour (when Michael propped up his brothers by doing a tour at the height of his popularity that showcased all of them and not just him solo) came through Dallas and we had tickets to the Friday night show at the old Texas Stadium on July 13, 1984. It was the first of three nights in Dallas.

Note: some places I've seen video of this have the date wrong as the Saturday show on 7/14/1984 but that is not right - impossible in fact as VH played three nights at Reunion arena starting Saturday 7/14 and had played Houston on 7/10-7/12.

But anyway they had come to Dallas on Friday 7/13 their day off and MJ and The Jacksons were playing that night at Cowboys Stadium. It was a surprise to most and not advertised of course, but I recall some speculation that it could happen as everyone knew they were also coming to town the same weekend. It wasn't even widely known at the time that EVH had recorded it.

So sure enough Eddie comes out and performs. It was pretty electric and the crowd went wild.....but this video I found of it is pretty poor video and audio quality. But I was there. Pretty cool.

Here is the setlist - it was in the first encore.

Saw it in IMAX and was not disappointed, if fact watched with a smile on my face the whole time. Wished it woulda gone in for another couple hours. I'm glad it was all positive and upbeat. Everyone knows all the issues the bands had, so was happy just to get a good positive overview. Hope part 2 comes out soon!
