No LOTR films, therefore not legit.

Mullholland Drive. Entirely overrated, pretentious, and nonsensical.

But its true. 17 Oscars across 3 films, 11 for ROTK. They are masterpieces

Tough with lists like these to separate best movies and movies that did what they were trying to do the best.

Eg. Get Out... Peele made the perfect movie for what he was trying to do. And it was a great movie. But I wouldn't say its one of the Top 10 most entertaining films of the century.

Zodiac by most people's opinion is perfectly crafted. I think its a bore.

Wolf of Wall Street is fun, but I wouldn't even put it in Scorcese's Top 5 (and much of that Top 5 IMO is prior to 2000).

Mulholland Drive is a slog.

The ones I think on first glance I do agree with: Dark Knight, Boyhood, Mad Max, Social Network, Eternal Sunshine

Laughable top 30. Some great movies in there, of course, but come on.

I'd be very curious to hear a serious argument for Mad Max: Fury Road being better than all the LOTR movies.

I agree with a lot of them (love Mulholland Drive actually) but Ummm missing quite a few.

Gladiator
Hell or High Water
Oppenheimer
Traffic
The Departed
LOTR: RotK at least
Birdman
Spotlight
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
Interstellar

there are 10 I could easily remove from it to make room

Horrible list.

Arrival, The Dark Knight, and the Grand Budapest Hotel in the 20's while all those other movies are ranked so high? Bull***** Those are all top 10 movies of the 21st century. Also, Royal Tenenbaums is great, but Grand Budapest Hotel is the superior film.

No Interstellar or Inception? Really?

Also, was looking through their list... the #1 ranked comedy of the 21st century, according to NY Times, is Bridesmaids. Are you freaking joking?!?! You have the comedy years of 2000-2015ish. There are more comedies that are better and funnier than Bridesmaids in that time than I can count on both hands.

And then there's their top Pixar pick being Wall-E at #34. Give me a freaking break. Who puts Wall-E as their top Pixar pick when you have The Incredibles, Toy Story 3, Inside Out, or UP? Perhaps I can give this more of a pass than other transgressions, but I still think that's a ****ty take.

All in all, It's a ****ty list. However, I would expect nothing less from the NY Times.

ETA: I didn't add my many paragraphs at the complete lunacy of leaving the Lord of the Rings off this list. To quote a great name for these kinds of companies from a favorite movie of mine that was ALSO not in the top 30... the NY Times is a swill merchant.

The list is not from the NY Times. It's a poll of actors and directors. The Times just published it.

There's never a bad excuse to bash the NYT.

Now if you'll excuse me, I still need to do Wordle, Mini-Crossword, and Connections today.

I've seen seven of the 30. I don't think I've heard of half of them.

No Wreck it Ralph?

Plot twist. The poll the article is referring to never existed and this is just a list a few NYT columnists made while they got high in the bathroom.
