I'm just surprised Black Panther wasn't on the list.

At quick glance, it looks like Black Panther was the only Marvel movie to make the top 100.
Which is pure virtue signaling. I am glad to see Best In Show which should be the highest ranking comedy on that list of the ones I see. It's better than Wes Anderson's two movies that are near the top.

Just shows the disconnect between what audiences want and enjoy and the "art of filmmaking" in my opinion.

Some of the films on the list are so painfully unentertaining that I switched them off. Some of them focus on social issues that I don't care one crap about. And then you also have to wade through the pretentious streak that drive the line of thinking of some of these Hollywood types as they compete to have "cultured" views of the world and then try to force those down our throats.

1. Mad Max: Fury Road should be in the top 5. It's the best action movie of the last 25 years and one of the greatest action movies ever made. Brokeback Mountain is a great movie, but hell nah is it better than Fury Road.

2. I noticed a lack of horror movie representation. I'd put Hereditary in my top 100 and I think it's better than Get Out.

3. Same with documentaries; they seem underrepresented. Free Solo or Man on Wire come to mind as great docs that would crack my top 100.

4. There are not 99 movies this century better than Superbad.

5. The Hurt Locker is not better than Zero Dark Thirty.

I know this is an aggregate of hundreds of industry people's opinions, but some definite question marks here.

Fury Road was amazing in theaters but I didn't think it was nearly as good when I watched it at home. I just don't think it holds up to repeated viewings as well as some other action movies.

You put Brokeback Mountain above Fury Road. The guy whose handle is named after one of the most absurd franchises in movie history.

That's because Brokeback Mountain is a legitimately great movie and Fury Road is massively overrated.

Fun popcorn flick, but that's as far as it goes.

A lot of stinkers on that list also.

If I had a gun to my head and someone made me name my 5 favorite/best movies of the last 26 years

    Arrival
    Edge of Tomorrow
    The Martian
The Matrix (why I said 26 years
    Interstellar

Obviously I tend towards sci fi, but I like entertaining movies that occasionally make you think a bit. Pure popcorn is too dumb for me and artsy fartsy crap is too boring for me no matter how artistically brilliant it is. The best movies have to straddle the line of entertainment and art.

The list in the OP just leans heavy in the fartsy side and no consumer is going to agree with it.

I'd argue that Arrival is one of the fartsiest of artsy movies in sci-fi film history. Didn't see a single bomb drop or alien get splattered. It really was just about the importance of communication. Yet, it was awesome. A good movie is a good movie.
