If it wasn't for this board I don't think I would be aware of 90% of movies and a lot of shows.

I never watch commercials or hear ads anymore. I specifically pay to avoid that.

Unless it is popping up on your social media of choice I think it's easy to miss sometimes.

I just found it curious that you ranked it your number one reason on the politics board, but only had this comment on the entertainment board, " Woke content and deliberate to the point of insane race swapping is in there somewhere. Rank where you see fit."

I don't know, you tell me. You were the one who changed your ranking based on the board you posted.

I saw the second-to-last Mission Impossible movie in the theater, and there was a family with two small kids who had their iPads out watching something with the volume way up. I went to the front desk, but they wouldn't do anything. Frickin unbelievable how inconsiderate people are these days.

I think reserved seating is the only thing movie theaters have done that actually improves the movie-going experience. I can pick my seat and know that I will have a decent seat, and can show up 20 minutes late to the theater and avoid all the stupid commercials without worrying about sitting in the front row.

He won't do this, btw, bc he apparently knows where the circle jerk is, and enjoys that.

But, name one movie from the summer of 2025 that had "woke content" and "insane race swapping"?

I watch a lot of network/cable television, and I see tons of commercials. Ugh.

Most television advertising I see is for insurance, cell phone companies, fast food and big pharma.

The studios' television ad spend is geared toward live events like sports or awards shows. So if you aren't watching those, it's easy to miss.

People who don't pray to the Hollygods can easily be comfortably unaware of the latest "blockbuster" movies.

Jurassic park was a summer movie?! Thought it was legit like 6 mo this ago but checks notes it came out 2 months ago. Superman? Someone asked me if I had seen it and I said no, got looked at like I had a third eye growing out of my chin. F1? Only thought that comes to mind was Matt Damon is the star, right? Upon looking, I'm wrong there too.

These movies don't interest me. I have more tangible pursuits so my brain can easily filter out the inconsequential noise.

This is why I almost exclusively go to Drafthouse or other places where they will kick someone out in a heartbeat.

Too many entertainment options at home/on your phone. My teenagers never ask about going to the movies. We go maybe twice a year. When I was in HS we'd go at least once a month it seemed. And there'd always be a line on weekends.

Theaters are like air travel. Just not fun anymore.

A lot of the lines in previous decades were because you weren't able to reserve your seat, so you had to show up early to avoid sitting in the s***ty section. I don't miss those days at all.

Of course movies aren't as fun to you as they were when you were a kid because you're not a kid anymore.

And let's not kid ourselves that jerks in movie theaters are only a recent occurence. Sure, cell phones make people more obnoxious, but I remember going to see a horror moving in the early 2000's (it may have been the texas chainsaw massacre remake) and a couple brought their infant. Jerks in theaters have always been a thing.

What we're seeing now is simply the result of 1) Hollywood relying too much on sequels and comic book movies, 2) a higher level quality of TV show offerings than in decades past, 3) better viewing experience at home than in decades past, and 4) hollywood shooting itself in the foot by streaming movies 30 to 60 days after they're released in the theater.

Lol at pointing to total revenue as your point on the health of an industry. It's like my liberal father always talking up California by pointing out GDP. That tells us nothing about how much actual profit is being taken in. On top of that, it doesn't take into account inflation at all.

But let's just point to the stats we like, because it paints a better picture that I feel more comfortable with.

There are very few movies released that I actually care to see. Hell, the movie that's killing it on views is Kpop demon hunters, which did very well in theaters with their Sing a long version. The actual version is still #2 on Netflix and the sing along version is #7. There is still an audience out there for good stories and fresh visions. Also... guess what? No woke or preachiness. It's amazing how well movies that don't preach woke politics do so well...

If you actually read my posts, instead of conveniently ignoring certain parts/caveats, you'd know that this wasn't my only point of health, and that I also agreed multiple times with the tickets-sold stat. But hey, at least you got to mock me by reducing my posts to a single, straw man argument, which is par for the course around here.

As obvious as the Snow White success that you guaranteed?

I love how I'm not allowed to ever be wrong, while simultaneously never given credit for the all shots I have called, when everyone gave me *****

Also, predicting the success of one movie is a very different ballgame than simply looking at the calendar, seeing the sheer number of likely $700M-$1B earners in, say, 2027, and objectively predicting the odds of success from there.

Let us know the next time you criticize the entertainment industry. You trumpet everything they do. Cherry picking a few social media posts by people who represent the industry isn't really a big "Gotcha".

Not even close to accurate (I criticize Hollywood frequently on this board), or at all what I'm talking about (which has nothing to do with social media posts), but by all means, keep reducing me to whatever best fits your reductive, straw man argument.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Every one of these arguments is identical as far as how they start and where they go, I could almost write a math theorem on them. And yet they keep happening, time and again. It's kinda bizarre honestly.

The only people *****ing about "woke" at this point are conservatives who have built their identity around being "anti-woke." It's pathetic.

Or perhaps they're pissed about the intrusion of politics into entertainment. The theater was once a place where, largely, one could go to get away from whatever real crap is going on in the world. Even for only a couple of hours. But now, you step into a theater and you still see this crap. That is what is pathetic.

You… you think that's new?

It is not new but what is new is the frequency of this in a wide range of movies. Expect it in a movie like The Crying Game, but not in some animated kid's movie or Star Wars.

Didn't see any of the kid movies. I didn't notice anything in the movies I saw - Superman, F1, Fantastic Four, Mission Impossible, Thunderbolts, and Ballerina. Not a summer release, but the Snow White movie fits the bill here.

So you use the term "frequency".

Then can't mention one single movie.

That would be the exact opposite of frequency.

Frequency means over a number of years, but you already knew that. Go play gotcha somewhere else.
20ag07
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I didn't play gotcha. You tried to.

Go ahead and name all the movies in 2024 that were so triggering with wokeness that it's been, in your words "increasingly frequent".
maroon barchetta
How long do you want to ignore this user?
It's funny how triggered and defensive some posters get if the term "woke" gets used.

Bet they hated Ricky Gervais using the term in his 2020 Golden Globes monologue.
20ag07
How long do you want to ignore this user?
No- some people who vote as right as you do just know that people from the circle jerk come into complain "it's increasingly frequent wokeness that's causing this".

When asked what that "increasingly frequent wokeness" is, they literally cannot answer.

So- if we're having intelligent conversation (which we expect people who vote right do…right?) name the exact movies that you have seen in the past couple of years that have indicated an "increasing frequency of wokeness."

(It won't happen. The circle jerk over there where no one actually asks for facts is what the ones who make these claims prefer.)
maroon barchetta
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I have posted in F16 a mere handful of time, so if you are going to lump me in with "those people", I'll just copypasta a TC post and change a couple of words so you can see I don't fit in with that group like you think I do.

We have been over this a number of times, really each time a reboot movie comes out that has changed things just to cater to certain groups.

Little Mermaid, anybody? Does that refresh your memory?

ESPN Radio has made a number of changes in hosts just to check some boxes. It certainly isn't because the hosts are better than who was there previously. It's pandering to a smaller demographic, trying to bring in listeners they think they didn't have before, while likely pushing away listeners that have been there for years.

It's either woke, or they are just terrible at marketing.

This thread is about the 2025 Summer Blockbuster period and why or why not it was the worst ever. You correctly named the Summer 2025 movies you saw, but then moved the goal posts to say your point spans multiple years. Nice.

Star Wars was intended in part as an allegory on Vietnam.

The topic is movies, and because you are a circle jerker, the best thing you can come up with is ESPN Radio? Radio isn't movies. (And also, ESPN fired the people they fired because they had been overpaying for years.)

Little Mermaid from 2023, which made $600M, and Disney was quite happy with.

None of that is "woke".

Replacing Dari and Mel with Hammer and Golden is not because Dari and Mel got paid too much.

And sure Disney got money off of Little Mermaid. Doesn't change the fact that they decided to check a box on the casting of the main character.

Did it bother you that Scarlett Johansson was cast as the lead in Ghost in the Shell?
