Admittedly, I'm an old. Never heard of this guy/person. Can someone enlighten me and perhaps link some of his/her most famous songs/performances? I thank you in advance.

Do old people think TexAgs is Google?

Old people still haven't figured out google and the youngins are skipping google for ChatGPT.

I think when people ask Texags rather than doing their own research they want to know what others think so they can think the same.

I think, in this instance, it is more so they can express their displeasure at the choice without just saying "I dont like things that I don't understand". Based on the emoji chosen for the OPs post, this is the answer.

These kinds of discussions always crack me up.

We automatically assume that young people won't like old folks' music, and we give them a pass. At the same time, we mock older people who don't like young people music.

But aren't both age groups expressing the same thing? You like what you're familiar with. It's been that way since the introduction of modern music and the availability of different genres.

In 30 years, today's kids will be asking the Super Bowl to "bring back Bad Bunny" and their kids will be turning up their noses.

On a side note, I have a deep appreciation for music from before my time. And my kids appreciate the music of my youth (much of which they learned from "Glee" or playing Rock Band). But I realize there's a difference between appreciation and loving what's new and fresh.

Choosing an artist whose catalogue is entirely in a language that the overwhelming majority of viewers don't speak is just annoying.

The league is trying so hard to globalize.

Looking at the lyrics of most pop/hit songs, I don't think most of yall are listening to the english words anyways so what does it matter?

Similarly, they just had Snoop Dogg perform for the Australian Football League Grand Final.

I couldn't stop laughing at how many of the lyrics Snoop changed. Nothing about tricks or hos but weed was OK.

Complaints ahead of his performance

The actual performance

Looks like he also cut all references to his N-U-Teez (cause you gets none of these, at ease).

Not to mention, the next huge audience for the nfl is Latin America. They are making solid inroads in Europe, but this can help jump start their next market grab,

This - All the people who are upset (which is comical) just don't understand this isn't for them. The NFL wants to grow an audience in the Spanish speaking world. So they go and get the biggest Spanish speaking act in the world. It's not that complicated, it's a basic business practice.

I'm an Old, so I'm not the target market. After reading much of this thread I googled to see how much of his stuff is in English. If what I saw was correct it was almost nothing. An interesting choice for an American event.

Like many people, I hate the selection of Bad Bunny for the Super Bowl Halftime Show because he doesn't sing a single song in English, and about 78.3% of U.S. residents aged 5 and older speak only English at home. But I understand that Bad Bunny is a worldwide celebrity, and the NFL is trying to expand its audience.

Did you know the Super Bowl is broadcast globally. Spanish is the 2nd most spoken native language in the world only behind Mandarin. The NFL is the most watched thing in America by FAR. The only way for their revenue to grown more is to expand beyond just marketing to Americans. Its simple economics.

So much blah blah blah about the Super Bowl having an American halftime performer

Rihanna - not a US citizen (Barbados)
Shakira - not a US citizen (Colombian)
Coldplay - not US citizens (United Kingdom)
The Who - not US citizens (Unitef Kingdom)
Rolling Stones - not US citizens (United Kingdom)
Paul McCartney - not a US citizen (United Kingdom)
U2 - not US citizens (Ireland)

But….
Bad Bunny - US citizen and has the most streamed album ever. Bad Bunny will bring ratings even if some old white people don't like it.

Bad Bunny was the most-streamed artist in the world on Spotify from 2020 to 2022

His music frequently sees viral success in the U.S. His 2025 album Deb Tirar Ms Fotos debuted at #1 on the US Billboard 200, making it his fourth album to top that chart.

Spotify's 2024 Year-End Wrapped: For the full year of 2024, Spotify ranked Bad Bunny at #3 globally

Obviously I've spent too much time in LA County because, I'm used to dealing with speakers of:
Tagalog
Armenian
Farsi
Korean (they even named it Koreatown)
Cantonese
Mandarin
Japanese (in Irvine)
there are even some Hebrew speakers on Fairfax

Oh yeah, and Spanish obv

English has only been the official language of the USA for about 7 months so give us time to warm up to it since there was no official language for the first 248 years. Spanish has been spoken in Puerto Rico for over 500 years so... we'll get there - eventually.

There's a reason this board give the Texas Ranger's thread a run for their money with folks dealing with cognitive issues, and that part isn't helping.

Hey, if you need a chaperone to take you to a Latin Club, let me know.

I wish you could have been with me when I went to SoFi back in August for Rams vs. Cowboys preseason.

The LA Rams Mariachi Band might have been too much to handle.

So you just don't think you can enjoy a show if the words are in a different language? Its not a singer songwriter open mic, its the Super Bowl halftime show. Music is the universal language for a reason

Was listening to some Bad Bunny while I was working the other day thanks to this thread.

When I'm working I normally listen to instrumental stuff because I find the lyrics distracting. Listening to music where I don't understand the language seems to work the same way.

Don't love all his stuff but some of it has a great vibe.

I had never heard a Bad Bunny song before or knew who he was before this, but I have a pretty heavily curated playlist in spotify and dont listen to the radio, so maybe that's why.

I thought Kendrick Lamar's show last year was amazing and I didnt even see it live during the super bowl, but watched it afterwards and have several times since then on yt because Im a fan of Kendrick Lamar.

Bad Bunny seems to be a pretty decent guy and I have since learned he was the caddy in HG2, which I liked.

We will see. I dont speak Spanish, that's also why I may not have known him.

Was hoping for a Post Malone show for this years Super Bowl, but we will see how this goes.

Something can be a fact and still be used disingenuously in a conversation. You know full well my point. Be smarmy all you want, but just because the U.S. government never actually designated English as our "official" language until Trump did one of his typical Trump things doesn't mean it hasn't been the unofficial language of the nation since it's inception.

For what it's worth, I understand both sides of the current argument...the business side wanting to expand into the latin market, and the longtime fans who feel like they're getting pushed aside in the process. I grew disinterested in the NFL years ago. I half heartily watched the super bowl because it's a big event. Kendrick Lamar absolutely sucked **** last year, so I'm sure Bad Bunny will probably be better by him than default. And I though he was funny in the Happy Gilmore sequel. I'm just following this whole conversation in amusement more than anything else.

The guy is a mega star.

Bad Bunny is Spotify's most-streamed artist worldwide for three consecutive years, from 2020 to 2022.
Taylor Swift has since topped the list, with Bad Bunny ranking as the second most-streamed artist in 2023 and third in 2024, according to Billboard, while another report places him as second.

Both incredibly and extraordinarily over-rated.

The NFL is already huge in Mexico. Hell, go to a Dallas Cowboys tailgate.

When I was in Mexico City, I was all excited about talking soccer with the locals and none of the guys I talked to cared about it. They wanted to talk about the NFL.

Also, since we are now pivoting foreign policy to the Western Hemisphere and bringing back the Monroe Doctrine that could indirectly influence NFL growth in Latin America as well by creating a safer and more secure Latin America.
