The outrage over this is just not there for the majority of the sane world.

It's just another example of what used to be referred to as political correctness.

I find this to be mildly aggravating, but it won't stop me from watching any Bond flicks on Amazon. But this could go down a similar path that black Ariel or Thor with tits did. There are many characteristics that I believe the average viewer would recognize in the James Bond. One would be a gun, mostly the Walther PPK (think that's the gun he typically uses) although Daniel Craig carried a big machine gun of some sort in QoS I believe.

You won't see some massive protest of 007 fans over these posters. You won't even see any thing if Amazon does things in their new movies that most would recognize as not Bond. Pull a Spielberg and replace his gun with a walkie talkie, as already mentioned, and you'll see people not seeing such a movie. Make him gay, same thing. No, I don't think making him black will be an issue with most, but making him a woman probably will.

At the end of the day, Amazon bought James Bond, so they can do whatever they want with that property. But they will not be immune from awful decisions made around their depiction of the character.

Or people realize this is just the probable first of many dumb decisions to come.

In today's hyper partisan world, there will absolutely be people who tune it out now. Who knows what that percentage is, but even if it's .1 percent of their market, it's still dumb. The goal is to expand it, not contract.

But the larger issue is that they now created a narrative they are going to have to answer to for years. A segment of people will be analyzing the lead up press, the casting, the plot, the action sequences through that lens, so they will lose more along the way because people will look for reasons to confirm their perceived bias. Just a big unforced error.
