Watched Ken Burns on the newest Theo Von podcast and I can't wait for this to come out November 16th, especially after listening to him talk all about it.

He made the bold claim that he compiled the greatest list of actors for a single project of all time to voice the thing and its hard to argue with that after looking at the list:

Key Voice Actors in the Series:

And he said that's only part of the list. Highly recommend the podcast. I learned a lot more from that time in history already:

Cannot wait for the third volume to come out. Atkinson is gifted at making history into page turners. I was lucky to spend an evening discussing The British Are Coming with him at the Army War College and a few hours felt like 15 minutes. Needless to say, I got The Fate of the Day right when it was released and couldn't put it down.

Anyone interested in Revolutionary War history should check them out!

I am so damn excited about this. I teach APUSH and I have a countdown in my room.

I have watched the Vietnam War probably 18 times. Ken Burns is a GIFT.

Ken is one of the most underrated people in American History, and I say that without hyperbole.
What he has done to permanently document the American Experience will be used for generations.. he's helped us understand and even define who we are as a country.

The Civil War was incredibly well made and also the most boring 11 hours of my life.

Gah. I love it. The music is haunting. I could listen to Shelby Foote read a phone book. His voice is so soothing.

You were the guy!

I read a more descriptive comment of yours some time ago about The British Are Coming, which inspired me to pick up the book.

And I never posted to say thank you, because without your recommendation I never would have known. So, thank you,

Atkinson makes history come alive and I also picked up the second on release.

Ep 1 was tonight. Following episodes the next 5 nights.

I realize the purists on the Politics forum will give it a thumbs down, because it's... Ken Burns, but I thoroughly enjoyed this. Will continue to watch.

Haven't watched it yet but I heard they called the Americans enslavers but completely glossed over who was doing the actual enslaving across the pond.

Multiple times they have referred to the British crown as being the largest slaving entity in the new world, specifically referencing the money they made from the slave plantations in their Caribbean colonies. They pointed out that those plantations had by far the highest slave rates because they were the most profitable.

That's not been hidden.

I assume what he's getting at is that it was other Africans that sold them into slavery, so that somehow makes it ok that Americans bought and sold them? Idk though

It is hard to believe in 2025 eyes when you read the advertisements for slaves. While being disgusted is one approach, I think it is more important to remember that's what humans are capable of doing.

It does not make it OK that Americans bought those slaves that had been victimized by other black people and Muslims, but it would indicate that enslaving people was not a uniquely American experience, which is a delusion that a number of politicians and academics are selling these days.

Correct and I have no idea how anyone could have taken from my post that I felt it ok for Americans to own slaves. It is one of the worst things this country ever did and without it, we would be a fundamentally different place today.

No, it's just an accurate telling of history as opposed to the "white people and white people only are bad, and everyone else good" spin on history that some of us received in public schools. Along the same lines of the "noble savage" sugarcoating when teaching any history involving native Americans. There is still slavery and genocide on a MASSIVE scale in Africa and other parts of the world also...just FYI...Christians being butchered in Nigeria as we speak.

Episode 1 was awesome. Wanted to watch #2 last night, but might have to savor this one a bit. The American Revolution is my favorite history story of all time. I think it's wild how little popular media we have about it.

When I see statements made like the above, it reminds me so much of a woman when she is PMS'ing and just being illogical and petty. Such an unecessary and overreactive statement/accusation.
