Such a tragic and relatable character.

Peter Jackson is going back the New Zealand to produce another LOTR series.

The first one is called "The Hunt for Gallum"

Release is probably 2027?

Who among us hasn't wished for a retelling of LOTR from Gollums point of view? Like Wicked but in Middle Earth!

I'm highly skeptical of this Gollum movie.

Don't get me wrong, Serkis did a great job bring Gollum to life. But most of the scenes with Gollum in them grate on my nerves and make me feel extremely uneasy in a primal sense.

I cannot imagine watching a whole movie about him.

But as the title implies it's the "hunt for gollum"; is it based on the plot of this fan fiction tilm?

I read a lot about the foundation of this idea when it was first announced; it's from one of the appedicies from the original novels. It is confusing how it's going to be feature-length movie because what could the stakes possibly be? They told a condensed version of it in FOTR - he leaves the Lonely Mountain after the events of the Hobbit, goes to Dale, somehow finds out that Bilbo has returned to the Shire, somehow winds up headed to Mordor, encounters Shelob, then gets hunted by Aragorn, taken to Mirkwood, questioned by Gandalf, and then escapes and heads for Moria to track the Fellowship.

It smacks decidedly of what I always thought bout the Hobbit movies - that Jackson didn't really want to make those movies, he just wanted to film certain scenes, but he had to make a movie around them.

Sounds about right; I just don't understand the fascination with movies trying to explain every background and backstory...

Leave somethings inexplicable - that's what creates the awe and mystery.

When is it that he gets grabbed by the orcs and interrogated in Minas Morgol (or just random place in Mordor)?

I'm with you.

Who watched/read LOTR, and was impressed with the rich universe and cast of characters and thought to themselves "I want to explore more about the annoying schizophrenic mutant guy..."?

If we are going to make LOTR movies based on footnotes, then I want a revenge porn Tom Bombadill movie with him wrecking shop.

I'd settle for that one Elf (Earanduil?) that fights the Ancalogon the Black

Or the human dude (Hurin?) that fights the dragon Glaurung

I probably butchered those names; have not read the tales in about 20 years

"They're taking the footpad to Barad-Dur" is the new "They're taking the hobbits to Isengard".

Before, like around the time or before he met Bilbo based on the "tales" mentioned in the books Gandalf tells Frodo that while they are still at Bag End.

I'm going to leave this here for you nerds. A military historian discusses the battles in the Lord of the Rings both from the book and movies. Fascinating look at how a lot of Jackson's choices make cinematic sense but don't work in the way medieval warfare would but how right Tolkien got things.

I can't remember. I wish that the powers that be would realize the fact that it's in the appendix means it's ancilliary information and just helping shape the context of the broader story. Instead it feels like they're just kicking up anything that seems like it could be a movie.

if they had wanted to make a proper movie, they should have taken the story of what the Rings of Power TV show is doing and done that because that's a lot more interesting. That show has had its struggles - mostly the hobbits for me, but the theater quality acting by Sauron and Celebrimbor was really a high note. Without being too pessimistic, it definitely feels like once the movie people saw that show's initial #s, despite lot of angry fan backlash that it didn't "look/feel" like the movies, they got the cartoon dollar sign in their eyes and suddenly had an overwhelming idea that cranking out another movie with familiar faces was a great idea.

Ya I dunno about a movie for that. The show is good some weeks and better horrible other weeks.

Will agree that Sauron and "Gandalf" character are the strongest points.

Yeah, I'm schizo on this show. I've watched an episode off an on for months now. I think I'm on S2E2 at this point but haven't watched in a while. I'll enjoy one episode quite a bit and then the next episode will suck.

To clarify i didn't mean making a movie out of the series, I meant if pJ and Serkis wanted to make another movie, they should have made the story of Sauron making the rings into the movie before the Rings of Power came out.

Why is Jackson not tackling Silmarillion? It's every bit as epic as LOTR and has way more content than all of these other appendices takes on the universe. Maybe he just doesn't have the gumption to tackle something that hefty again.

Imagine how legendary his career could be with the bookends of LOTR and the Silmarillion.

For me, FOTR is better than the other 2 combined. Everything in The Shire is such a gorgeous love letter to the world Tolkien created. Ditto the 2 statues on the river. PJ really takes his time to show the wonder of Middle Earth. They don't make'em like that anymore.

The Two Towers started off amazing with the Gandalf/Balrog fight scene. The switch to Frodo and Sam's trek was abrupt and the movie was herky jerky from that point forward. FOTR was easily the best of all the Jackson Tolkein movies.

FOTR has the best score as well.

The Two Towers, in my opinion, is the best one. FOTR is second.
