I think if you haven't read and aren't a fan of the novel, then it's probably going to fall pretty flat.

I really enjoyed both (recent) movies even though the 2nd had a lot of haters. But if takes enjoying easter eggs to be the difference between good and bad, that's a fail. That said, I'm sticking with it and hopeful it rallies.

I think it will ultimately just feel like an extension to the movie -- which isn't necessarily a bad thing if you liked the movie, just going to get very repetitive. It's going to be kids going through various experiences with It, with an attempt to weave a Kingverse crossover into everything.

I like King, but his universe is more easter-eggy as you say than actually fleshed out. Certain names make certain appearances in multiple stories, but it doesn't really serve the story much at all.

So sure it's neat that the guy who helps Danny at the Overlook in 40 years is showing where previously he's used his "shine", it's all being retrofitted and that's just not King's forte. King loves the idea of the multiverse, but he's never shown he's capable of actually mapping it out competently. Instead you get a Patrick Danville character that 10 years later King uses as a deus ex machina in the ultimate battle of his magnum opus.

Yeah I feel there might be a "Mist" tie in. There was a scene in the series trailer that had a mist creeping through Derry. Maybe this is where the SK Mist originated.
The grocery scene was awesome. The aisles closing in, random customers following her around. Very well done.

I'm mostly seeing comments about the grocery store scene but the one with Ronnie and her mom was way crazier IMO, straight up nightmare fuel. I'm enjoying the story from the perspective of the kids but when they go to Hanlon and Hallorann, along with the military, it feels a bit sloppy to me. I'm hoping they can clean that part of the show up but they might be holding something back right now.

The Air Force is "digging up bones, exhuming things better left alone." Seems like the Native American population had some protective objects in place that soon will be tampered with. It's wild that the old car was buried with the criminals inside from the Bradley shootout.

This was my feeling as well, a lot of it felt stale to me.

Episode 3 was a let down.

So much of the plot/backstory felt shoe-horned in. The horror elements were closer to a Goosebumps episode.

Agreed on it being way too slow. I like the backstory a little but I feel like this could be 5 episodes instead of 10 and work better.

I noticed the turtle reference in episode one. I think maybe it was the highschool mascot?

The turtle, aka Bert, was an actual PSA ( film ) from the 50's on how to survive a nuclear event, Duck and Cover!

The episodes are getting progressively worse IMO. I really liked the pilot, but it's been downhill since then. It just feels like they're throwing stuff against the wall to see if anything sticks. They're trying to insert elements of other King properties as well and it doesn't feel organic to me. I'll give it a little more time but I don't have much more patience.

Epi 4 - the kids find the bodies of their friends and bury them in the back corner of a pet cemetery (i mean, gotta shoe horn more properties somehow right?)

Back in town, a toy company truck rolls in with a large green goblin face on the front while a mysterious comet crosses the sky..........

They are trying to Marvelize the King metaverse, and it's simply not deep enough.

What else are they connecting, besides the Hallorann/Shining thing?

This is not the tone I was expecting. It's got elements of Goosebumps, Scooby Doo, X-Files and IT. The lack of on screen Pennywise is really impacting this show.

  • They think they can harness the entity as a weapon? LOL
  • Standard noble indigenous trope who had it under control until the whites arrived
  • Charlotte is an activist?
  • The silliest part was Large Marge's googly eyes

I WANT TO BE ALL IN AND LOVE IT, BUT IT'S NOT WORKING.

Noticed the Chief of police is named Bowers, which is the grandad of the crazy kid in the recent IT movies.

sooo, you're saying the anti-heroic dog with an ear infection and food allergies will save the day in ep10?

Hollywood has forgotten the faces of their fathers, but it's Hollywood so not sure Dads are big there anyway

Agreed, these are weak inserts that aren't really needed to further the prequel.

The crazy thing is the acting is all well above average. The child actors -- which are notoriously difficult to do well with -- are actually pretty good and believable.

The town is fleshed out well, set pieces are all good.

It's just bad writing and bad CGI.

I'm bored with a show about with a demon baby and an evil, ancient entity.

Good episode.
  • Matty's "come back" was a nice touch.
  • Lilly has the dagger.
  • RIP Pauly
  • Hank Grogan escaping will ramp up the tension in town.
  • The Black Spot tragedy looms.

That last episode was pretty good. Question - was the box referenced in Doctor Sleep? I only vaguely remember that movie, but I'm thinking that was how they finished off the soul sucker at the Overlook, by opening a box on her

Never saw the movie, but it was in the book for sure. It was his way to trap evil spirits and memories and he taught it to Danny

The show is getting better. I'm still struggling with The Black Spot happening in the 60s instead of the 20s, but that's on me I guess.

They changed a lot of the timeline with the new movies, like the main Losers Club events are in the 50s and 80s in the book, and in the 80s/10s in the movies/tv show.

Episode 6 has a new director, Jamie Travis. This is one of my favorites of the season.

  • The 1935 flashbacks to the Juniper Hills boiler room were well done.
  • We have not seen the last of Ingrid and Lilly.
  • Let's hide a fugitive and let at least 30-40 people know about it. What could go wrong?
  • Leroy was "corrupted" in the sewer.
  • Romance blooms for Rich and Marge.

That little "run" Pennywise does may be the creepiest thing about him.

Episode 7 was a tad underwhelming.

  • I enjoyed the Bob Gray backstory.
  • The Black Spot fire felt rushed.
  • Releasing Pennywise to scare America back into obedience?
  • A certain character death did not have the gravitas I felt was deserved.
  • Not sure why the marker stone had to be incinerated.
