So I went back and rewatched It and It: Chapter 2 this week.
First, it doesn't seem to ever be explained in either movie or the show why it only comes every 27 years. Is this explained in the book? Don't spoil why (in case it comes up in the next seasons), I'm just curious if there is an answer.
The endings of both the movies are kind of, well, dumb. In IT they just realize if they aren't scared of it then it doesn't want them and it just crawls down a hole. Why wouldn't it just go scare some different kids and eat them. How is this really defeating it?. And in Chapter 2 they literally just call it names to kill it. At least the show had a more epic ending to me.
Also the movies don't really jive with the show. The show makes a point that there is a huge event that caps off each cycle (like the factory fire, the shootout with the gangsters, or him kidnapping all the kids from the school in the show). Yet neither of the movies has any such event. They are both just the group of 4-6 kids that take him on. In fact in the second movie it doesn't really show hardly ANYONE get killed or kidnapped the entire time.
Also, in the show they talk about how the meteor was it's prison meant to contain it and made up of something it doesn't like. However, it broke when it landed and he escaped. They then talk about how they found it, broke off pieces and use that as the pillars to keep it caged, because, again, it doesn't like whatever it's made of. Yet, in the Chapter 2 the entire climax of the movie take places with IT crawling all over the remnants of the meteor. He doesn't seem to give a damn about whatever it's made of. Did I miss something?
Overall I liked the movies when I first watched them, but now, on re-watch, I like the show a lot more than the movies.
