Came across the NYE performance of 4 non blondes (which sounded like it could have been recorded in 1993 btw they sounded great) and was reading on wiki, to my surprise, they only had 1 album.

One album and done, with one huge hit.
Most 'one hit wonders' surely go on to chase that next hit, so this 1 album 1 hit is surely pretty elusive.

The La's with 'there she goes' and New radicals with 'get what you give' are two more.

90s are my wheelhouse so maybe there are some 70s or 80s. Anybody know of more?

Yeah, but 4 Non Blondes is a unique situation. The band was excited about doing a sophomore album and the label wanted basically the same thing as the first. Linda Perry didn't want to make the same music over and over, so she just stepped away and started writing.

The band may be a 1 hit wonder, but Linda Perry has written MANY other great songs that are popular.

Cutting Crew always comes to mind re: this subject. "(I Just) Died in Your Arms" was ubiquitous on MTV in the late 80s. And then, *poof*.

Temple of the Dog, but that's kind of a special case.

Regardless, 4NB still just had one album, with one big hit.

I wouldn't say it's unique for a member of a band to go solo or write for others. Ryan Tedder comes to mind, or Chris Stapleton doing kind of the reversal of this order. But both of these have multiple albums with the 'main' band.

Harvey Danger - "Flagpole Sitta"
The Rentals - "Friends of P"

Couldn't tell ya what the album names were for any of these, but I'm pretty sure there was just the one.

I know Harvey Danger hung around for a while and put out a couple more albums. Don't know about the other ones.

I never understood why 4 Non Blondes got so much hate. The lead singer has one of the most amazing voices in rock history.

4 Non Blondes is working on a new album. Linda Perry after being one of the preeminent pop producer/songwriters of the last 30 years doing her own new album? Yes, please.

Def not 1 hit, but maybe I'm biased.

Similar to mad season; although their 'second hit' was def under the radar so could make a case for them to fit in this category.

Arc Angels?

Although they had Too Many Ways To Fall in addition to Living In A Dream.

Was gonna go with Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians "What I Am" but I guess they have more than one album.

She's an Oak Cliff Dallas gal then went on to marry Paul Simon. Fun fact at least.

maroon barchetta beat me to Arc Angels.

I was part of the group that hosted them when they played Rudder Auditorium in the early 90s. I got to hang out backstage with Doyle Bramhall for a bit after the show. Never before or since have I felt so uncool. I have no doubt that guy forgot about me within seconds of us parting. I remember it like it was earlier today.

Definitely not a one-album wonder, but Sister Hazel has only one really big hit. However, they've built a 30+-year career with the exact same five guys the entire time.

A very rare phenomenon in music.

I have exactly one Linda Perry story.

Back in 2018 when Dolly Parton was recording the soundtrack for the Dumplin' movie, Sony flew my wife and I out to record some promo stuff with her in LA. We showed up to the studio which ended up being a converted home in the middle of a neighborhood in Thousand Oaks. It ended up being Linda Perry's studio because she was producing the soundtrack. With the exception of the kitchen and bathroom, every room had been converted into a recording space with inputs in the walls, mics, etc. We ended up spending the whole day there hanging out with Linda, Sara Gilbert, the session musicians, and of course Dolly. I can confirm Linda's hat game is still as strong as ever. Right before we were going to leave I pulled out a couple of records for Dolly to sign as well as a copy of Bigger, Better, Faster, More! for Linda to sign. She laughed, amazed that I had found a copy and happily signed it. Overall she was very nice and it was really cool so see her work her magic. She really has a knack for producing.
