Man what a fantastic snare sound.

I bought a little popcorn snare a few years ago and the sound immediately made me think of this. Lots of good entries on this thread.

My Own Summer (Shove It) - Deftones
About as simple as you can get...two beats...and then comes the rage

Not technically a riff, but on "I'm Coming Out" by Diana Ross, I think Tony Thompson gave the best, most chaotic drum intro ever on a pop song. I still can't time it right when just trying to air drum.

Should have been the reunion drummer after Live Aid.

His use of flams is so good. I actually do not like the song, but the intro on Some Like it Hot is classic 80s gated reverb to me.

So are we debating best drum intro to a song, or good songs that happen to have a drum intro? I feel like we need both categories.

I'll go to my grave thinking Sound & Color is the best engineered album of the 2010s. It's just magic.

Several from Zeppelin.

Hot for Teacher - VH
Painkiller - Judas Priest

And my somewhat guilty favorite as a drummer (and yes - I live in suburbia and I play Rolands):

Quiet Riot - The Wild and the Young

Quiet Riot could have sued Frida.

Correction: Frida released "I Know There's Something Going On" in 1982, four years before QR "The Wild and the Young" in 1986. Hmmmm.

Trivia: Yes, that's Phil Collins playing the drums and producing on Frida's hit single.

No mistaking Phil Collins on that Frida track.
