I was at the bookstore today and picked up a new hardcover edition of the Dragonlance Chronicles with a forward by Joe Manganiello (the actor - werewolf in True Blood).

Pretty random but apparently he's a massive fan of DC and has been trying to get Dragonlance made into movies for several years. He's come close a few times, but timing and circumstance have blocked him. He's written a treatment / screen play which he said has gotten rave reviews by those in Hollywood who have read it, so he thinks it's just a matter of time before it gets made.

That would be pretty kickass. Along with LOTR, Dragonlance was the other big fantasy series I fell in love with as a kid and have read all of the books. I almost bought it but I still have all of my original paperbacks and I like the artwork they had.

I bought it for my daughter for Christmas. She just started reading. It. Joe is a huge D&D player and fan. He hosts a regular game in his basement and has a badass gaming table. He's got quite a few videos on YouTube talking about Dragonlance and his attempts to make a film. I really hope he can make it happen.

I wonder if the failure of Eragon as a film has contributed to the lack of dragon fantasy films? Or the overall lack of interest in the fantasy genre is too big a hurdle? Budget of CGI in today's industry no doubt is a factor.

Start with the twins and get the guy who is playing Dunk to play Caramon. Then find the ugliest and skinniest looking guy to play Raistlin who will then become everybody's favorite character to both love and hate.

I wish they would do a full animated movie like the secret level episode on Prime. I would definitely go and watch this.

Yeah, that one and the Warhammer one were great.

Interestingly enough, Paolini is making Eragon again as a series with Disney+

So between that and the cosmere news, definitely seems like there is appetite to adapt established fantasy series

If you read his Forward, it sounds like this being an unknown property with Hollywood is part of the issue. I bet it gets made though. It's a great story and a pretty big classic with Gen X nerds.

He and Cavill seem to be the flame bearers for all things nerd in Hollywood.

With Forgotten Realms (Netflix) and Baldur's Gate (Max) live action adaptations on the way, a DL series may get pushed to avoid over saturation, but I'd love to see it!

FYI - the hard bound Legends trilogy companion book to the Chronicles releases today. Go get the set.

If done right would be an all time trilogy or TV series.
