One of the few movies scenes that always choke me up.

It between this and when Gus reads Deet's grave marker.

We're in the middle of watching Lonesome Dove right now and am set to watch part 4 tonight. His scenes are going to hit a little harder tonight.

Same.

My ten year old son and I are watching it (his first time). Last night my wife walked in and asked "Is the guy that played Gus still alive?" I answered yes and that I thought almost all of them were still alive. I went to IMDB to make sure that I hadn't missed any deaths and had totally forgotten that Robert Urich had died so long ago.

Then I saw this info this morning. Talk about weird timing.

Pretty wild that pretty much all of them have lived this long. That series was 37 years ago and most of them were veteran actors at that point.

We had weird timing with Redford. On a lark we watched Butch Cassidy and the next morning found out he had died.

RIP Duvall. I was always a big fan from the Godfather movies, Gone in 60 Seconds (watched this one a lot during my formidable years).

About a decade back now I read all of the Lonesome Dove books. Ironically, I started watching the miniseries recently and have been watching about one episode every other week. On the last one now. As others have said, he was definitely born for this role and he really helps take it to the next level.

Edit to add: I completely forgot Kicking & Screaming. He is so good as the super competitive dad in that one.

Duvall was a consistent top actor throughout my life. I was way too young to have seen The Godfather movies until well after they were available on VHS tape. I can't even say which movie I first saw him in, but it was either Apocalypse Now or The Great Santini. Regardless, I loved him in both of those. It wasn't until after I graduated from A&M when I first watched The Godfather and The Godfather Part II - he shined in those movies.

I didn't watch Lonesome Dove when it first aired, but when I finally did watch it, I thought he was remarkable in it and quite literally seemed born for that role.

And maybe an under-rated role was in Open Range, a movie that my son and I both loved in the theater and then re-watched many times when we got the DVD. I see he was also in Enemy of the State, but I'm not remembering him from that one, that was more about Gene Hackman (another consistent top actor for me).

Slightly under the radar movie with Duvall that is fantastic is The Apostle. He's awesome in that. I think it's also Farrah Fawcett's last movie before she died, if I'm not mistaken.

This one hurts. Easily in my top 5 favorite actors.

Believe it or not, I've never watched LD all the way through. I will now.
