It is like if Neon Moon had a daughter song. Something that just hits the ear, sounds pleasant, and makes you want to dance

Remember Gen Z grew up with Gen X parents listening to the 80's and 90's country that they heard as a teen/kid.

It's a catchy tune but comparing it to one fo the greatest country tunes of all time is straight blasphemy.

I also feel like there's also a solid movement of young women making their name in mainstream country with a more traditional sound.

I'd say it kinda started and gained footing with Lainey Wilson and has really taken off with Ella Langley and Kacey Musgraves with up and coming artists like Kaitlin Butts and Sierra Ferrell.

There's a good group of women that aren't the typical mainstream sound of Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert that are putting out some good music and making a name for themselves.

Kacey Musgraves is anything but a new artist, she has been around a long time. She won a Grammy 10+ years ago.

Indian Outlaw is a definitive classic.

The main character (Bear Claw) is a young Indian brave of mixed tribal ancestry, which is a very common theme in media over the last 10 years despite it being over 30 years old. Truly innovative and ahead of its time!

His squaw Running Water is a Chippewa chick, ahem excuse me, a Ojibwe female in the correct cultural parlance. He must have been a very worldly mixed ancestry brave to venture from the plains or possibly southeastern US up to the Great Lakes region for her.

Or maybe it is a forced reservation settlement love story. I don't know, the story is a little murky.

The song addresses some risque or downright violent themes unapologetically:
  • Masturbation - beating on his tom-tom.
  • Voyeurism - the squaws trying to watch him perform the aforementioned act in his wigwam.
  • The plight of tribal drug abuse - Smoking herb amongst the tribe.
  • Domestic abuse/tribal violence - The utter ass whooping Bear Claw receives at the hand of the tribe's medicine man, but it is not quite clear if Running Water is the medicine's kin but he likely plays some sort of fatherly role in her life. On the other hand, maybe he is pervy old man and doesn't like Bear Claw messing with his young conquest. Lots to explore here with the large geographic distances pointed out earlier.
  • Nepotism - Bear claw is the son of the tribal chief and is boastful about it.
  • Gluttonous wealth - He purportedly owns both a teepee and wigwam, so one residence - most likely nomadic in nature but still a residence - on the plains and a residence in the north.
