I think we're all aware of the first Grammy for Hard Rock/Heavy Metal going to Jethro Tull over Metallica.

I just read that the 1976 Grammy for Best New Artist went to Starland Vocal Band over Boston.

I was too young to appreciate any controversy over the latter but I vividly remember the uproar over Tull winning instead of Metallica.

What other such examples like this can you think of that in hindsight seem absolutely comical?

Let's keep this musical. Don't need a rehashing of "Forrest Gump over Shawshank" or the travesty that was "Crash" winning best picture.

In hindsight, I think they may have been judged to harshly considering the quality of today's live performances from pop acts.

In 1974 the great Charlie Rich won Country Musician of the Year. In 1975 he had to pass that award on and do you know to who? Mr. Sunshine-on-my-god-damn-shoulders, John Denver! Yeah, can you believe it? Replaced by John ****ing Denver! Well, I'll be damned if Mr. Rich didn't take out his lighter and light that award on fire in front of everybody right there.

Glad I'm not the only one who only refers to him how as Mr. Sunshine on My Shoulders John Denver.

Also I love JD.

I had to look up the other nominees. Waylon Jennings, Loretta Lynn, Ronnie Millsap, and Conway Twitty. You could definitely see the tides turning in country music. Freddy Fender won Single of the Year for "Before the Next Teardrop Falls."

I think MJ lost Song of the Year in 1984 to Every Breath You Take.

I mean it's a good song but it's no Billie Jean.

Plus it's the stalker anthem.

Cool cool cool. I see someone woke up and chose violence this morning. Reminding me that Tull "beat" ...And Justice for All.

My rage knows no bounds and there will probably be a new hole in my wall soon. Thanks for that, I guess.

U2's Zooropa winning best alternative album over Siamese Dream from Smashing Pumpkins and In Utero from Nirvana.

Kanye West's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy not winning much less be nominated for album of the year.
