I am amazingly surprised how well it's done. The third show was amazingly done. You can cut through the tension with a knife at some points. Plus I'm digging the art and direction.

Very refreshing considering the lack of shows on right now. Basically I pay over a hundred bucks/month to watch a handfull of shows I like. And most of them are on network TV.

EDIT: Sorry about the new BG thread. I just remembered there already was one. Whoops...

Last night's kinda sucked. The actress playing Starbuck simply isn't good enough to carry that sort of script.

I like the show so far. I want to see how they develop the characters and storylines after they run out of the obligatory, we're out of water, food, air, fuel, etc. stories.

I really liked the '33' episode, good idea for the plot, and forcing the politician to make a real life/death, sacrifice the few for the many, kind of decision.

I was a BIG fan of the original (yes I am showing my age), but I am ok with the changes to the storyline that they made for the new show for the most part. The only really glaring one is the choice of making Starbuck a woman. I have no problem with having male and female pilots and in all facets of the military and civilian positions, but the Starbuck character is a drinking, gambling, cigar-chomping, hard-@ss and I just cannot take her seriously with the cigar in her mouth and trying to act tough.

Sorry, I'll get off my soapbox now.

For someone who is just recently coming in, which version of the Asian girl is a Psilon? Or are the shots on Caprica flashbacks of some sort?
bigjohn1

The premise is that both are Cylons.

The one on Caprica defitnitely is and knows it, the one on Galactica is a mole that was implanted and thinks she is a human, until she is activated. (the blonde Cylon talked about this in the mini-series/movie that started the new show)

Ok, two more questions Is the one on Caprica pretending to be human? or is she just plan old Psilon?

And is there anyone else on the crew the audience knows is a Psilon? (not counting the guy with the blonde chick in his head)

I have not seen the latest episode (have it Tivo'd to watch tonight or tomorrow), so there may have been something that I do not know about...

As far as I have seen of the one on Caprica, she is acting human for Helo's benefit, proabaly trying to gain hius trust and get information out of him as to the fleet's plans and Galactica's capabilities. But, she is aware that she is cylon.

But, the only other cylons acting/looking like humans they have encountered were the guy on the munitions depot station and the guy they marooned there as a suspected cylon (an ironic twist since Baltar accused him to divert suspicion from himself and the guy really was a cylon). The general premise is that anyone could be one and they could be activated at any time.

In her defense, I think Katee Sackhoff is doing a good job with Starbuck. The new Starbuck is supposed to be an overgrown child, and that's more or less what's being presented... talented, but cocky and immature. I think her character's role will be to "grow up" as the series progresses.

If you want a lesson in bad acting, watch the original 1978 series. Any comparisons on acting ability between the current Starbuck and the old are laughable. Acting-wise, the current Starbuck is Katharine Hepburn in comparison to Dirk Benedict. A valid point can be made on that character being a woman, but fans of the old show who make acting complaints are smoking crack.

After Friday's show, I think BG has overtaken "24" as this season's best show on tv.

There is solid acting and great set designs (for a show on SciFi especially). The scripts have been solid (even the cliched prisoner mutiny episode with Richard Hatch rose above the obvious cliches. Last week's episode got a little annoying with the "flashbacks-within-a-flashback" but I overlooked it thanks to the scene where Adama finds out the truth about his son's death from Starbuck. Powerfull stuff. Also, being a fan of the original series, I liked how they kept the plotline of Zak's death. Also, the "to be continued" at the end brought back memories of how most of the original series best episodes were 2-parters. Now, as long as they don't bring in a robotic dog.....

There is a real weight to what's going on. Losing over a dozen pilots in a freak accident in the docking bay drove home how undermanned the Galactica is and if the Cylons catch up to them, they're pretty muched screwed.

Im just happy theyre using real physics in space. B5 is the only other scifi production I can think of that's done that.

Real physics like hyperdrives? heh.

Real Physics like sounds in a vacuum?
NoACDamnit
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Ok fine, they use SOME real physics in that the ships don't bank and they can turn while staying on the same vector. It always annoyed me in star wars when someone had a tie fighter on their tail.

SPIN AROUND AND SHOOT THEM YOU DOLT!

If I remember correctly (from an old BG book), the sounds are artificially generated for the pilots to provide extra sensory input. The speakers were either piped into the cockpit or in the pilots helmet. They never bothered mentioning that in the show.

aTmAg: Seriously? I was not aware that this was anything other than an old sci-fi show.

How are the books?

If you are enjoying the show now, then you will really love it as the season progresses. It only gets better. I'm glad it's doing well in the ratings and will certainly be back for a 2nd season(which will have 22 episodes, this only has 13).

Yarddog,

I never owned the book, but saw it at my brother's place (probably late '80s) and I started reading it. I distinctly remember reading about the sound because at the time I thought, "finally somebody addressed the sound issue". I wish they would specifically address that in the show. That would be cool.

I think this was the book:

..but since they don't have a picture of the cover, I cannot be sure.

Friends of mine already have up to Episode 13 burned onto DVD (it's been showing in Britain for months now).

Although I'm tempted to burn them for myself, I'm going to try to resist and just watch them week by week.

Aren't y'all glad we only have to wait until July for the new season? I saw the finale in January and the wait has been killing me. Watched it again tonight and it was even better than I remembered.

No joke. I would have thrown a temper-tantrum-for-the-ages if I had to wait until the Fall or first of next year.

My guess for next season.

There are spoilers in here to this season but I assume you have seen them.

The Boomer that shot Adama will get interogated and killed.

Adama will live (duh)

Starbuck, Helo, and the pregnant Boomer will come back to the ship and Helo won't allow them to kill the mother of his kid. And this Boomer will eventually be accepted by the humans.

Six showed Baltar a baby on Kobol. Can't figure out if it is boomers kid, a kid that Six wants to have with Baltar, or if the baby already exists. Meaning she Six might already be pregnant somehow from virtual sex with Baltar.

These children are the next evolution (Cylon and human hybrids). And they may be "the god" that the Cylons keep refering to. These children will also have some "special power" or something. Helo and Boomer's kid will be the good one and Baltar and Six's kid will be the bad one.

The arrow of Apollo that Starbuck brings back is useless. Capt. Apollo and something of his (probably the Viper) will be what helps point the way to Earth.

Oh and NoAC, the Psilons are for the game Master of Orion these are the Cylons. Although I think you are just messing around.

And the baby will be named Boxey and he will have a robot dog that moves sorta like a chimpanzee.

Actually Boxey was in the mini series and in at least one of the episodes already. He is one of the kids that gets on the Raptor with Baltar on Kobol. He is also in an episode, the one were Starbuck is cracking jokes in front of the other pilots at a mission briefing, there is a little kid standing beside her, that is Boxey.

Funny thing is, I was looking on IMDB and they list a person that is supposed to be Boxey's dad. In the quotes he is the one that Number Six kills at the beginning of the mini series in the station.
