Anytime I see Crowe now (most recently in the newest Thor movie) I simply can't process that he looks the way he does now. I know it's been 20 years but for whatever reason I simply can't get past the fact that he's old and fat.

I see him like this now and my mind just tells me it's Crowe's brother or some other dude that kind of looks like him.
He's a bit like Christian Bale. He was at his peak during L.A. Confidential, overweight for The Insider, then lost 40 lbs for Gladiator, got super huge over time, then lost all of it for the Robin Hood adaptation, then gained it all back for The Nice Guys and Unhinged.

Somewhere in there, he lost a ton of weight for Cinderella Man. Almost hard to recognize his face in that one.

Some of that was intentional. Other times it wasn't.

First R-rated film I ever saw in theaters. I was 13 and the whole thing blew my mind. Still one of my Top 10.

Also, if I remember correctly, 2000 was a historical year for theaters. A series of enormous blockbusters came out that year including Gladiator, U-571, Meet the Parents, Gone in 60 Seconds, MI:2, X-Men, and The Patriot. It might've been the best year ever at the time.

Yeah most of those movies sucked them and suck now

Yeah. I'm looking at a list of movies released in 1999 and this claim definitely does not hold up.

I should've specified we're talking financially. It was a mammoth year at the box office. Even Dinosaur, one of the worst films I've ever seen, was a huge success. At the time, it was the highest grossing year ever, part of a sequence of super-successful blockbuster years before the Marvel era killed the blockbuster. '02-'04 were especially big.
