I am heading there tomorrow night by myself. I have never been to one on or off campus and my heart is filled with excitement and I just hope I make it from Conroe to Bonfire before they bring in the tourches so I can see it all unfold.

To Student Bonfire - Keep it alive, what you do now will be another stepping stone to bringing it back to campus. This year means you're one more year closer to getting it back to campus and your resume is only getting more powerful.

I built a few mid 90's fires, and I would consider this OC Bonfire not only a real Bonfire, but even truer to what Bonfire stands for than what I experienced. Makes me proud to be an Ag.

Keep it up guys.

IIRC, the '03 stack stood until about 3:30. And one of the Windle Sticks didn't fall at all.

Bonfire will die if the students don't keep it alive. The administration fully intends to delay any action on Bonfire's ultimate fate until it is forgotten--at which point they'll not bring it back due to lack of interest.

Student Bonfire is the only hope we have of seeing the tradition return to campus some day.

Great job by all the students.

This is Bonfire. As some noted above, it is as true or even truer to what Bonfire is in that it is built now without university support.

It is built solely through the Spirit of Fightin' Texas Aggie students.

I can't really understand it when people suggest that we're building it as a memorial to those who died.

I would like to meet you some time and discuss this in person.

I didn't mean any disrespect, it's just that I don't participate in Bonfire for the purpose of paying tribute to those who died. If someone does it for that reason, that's fine, I guess I just don't see it the same way.

Burn was pretty awesome tonight.

I dont build bonfire to remember those that died or for any old ags admiration or approval.

I build it because its fun. I build it for pride in myself, my dorm, and my university. I build it for my buddies and my brothers, my dads and sons. I build it because it makes me feel closer to a school that i love. I build it because it makes me feel closer to a group of friends that have become my family.

I will never forget the fallen, nor will i ever miss the opportunity to get an old ag out there and actively participating. But thats not what is important about building bonfire to me.

Not really. Building Bonfire is not an acquird skill. We could not build one for years and build one just fine when we decided to.

no offense, but have you worked on a bonfire?

even cutting down a tree is not as simple as handing somebody an axe and telling them to just go for it.

Does everybody just know how to hang an axe head, start a wedge, run a tractor, or load a truck? Will a random student know how to wire or run a chainsaw...

and who will be in charge? kids with the highest grades in their dorm are the crew cheifs? Redpots are elected by the student body? Browns are chosen for being the smelliest kids on campus?

its not as simple as just deciding to build it one day, it takes practice and experience and after just a few years all the knowledge would be lost.
