He told me that several eyewitnesses said that 2:42 a.m. was the time of the police report. I initially did not believe him, as several other newspaper articles say the collapse time was 2:42 a.m., which is inscribed on the granite marker on the center of the Spirit Ring. This article I found made me start believing him.

Posted in an earlier thread, but that's a big problem with wikipedia.

The EARLY media on it all had 2:30 as well as the people that were there.

The latter time was said somewhere after that and published in every article from that point on.

I'm not sure why you'd go with a media report over the word of the people that were there that night. What reason would we all have for getting it wrong?

This is what I was talking about.

The origin of the time stamp 2:42am was UPD. There was an off-duty UPD officer standing just outside perimeter when stack collapsed. Immediately ( within seconds ) after stack fell he keyed down on his radio to contact UPD dispatch of the situation in order that they contact all of the appropriate emergency response agencies. Due to UPD standard operating procedures, any time an officer keys down on the radio, a report log is immediately created. The report log generated began at 2:42am.

At the moment of collapse I was on ground at tag line on the northeast side of stack. Although I was looking right at it as it started to buckle I did not know the time nor did I even have a watch or cell phone.

I have, however, seen and heard the incoming communications and 911 calls to UPD and TAMU EMS from the time of collapse including time stamps. I later became friends with the above mentioned officer and the UPD dispatcher who was on duty the night of collapse. I have worked for the medical team stationed at stack the night of collapse, the campus ambulance service who responded first, and another department directly involved in campus emergency situations. While working with these groups I have become friends with many who were part of the immediate rescue effort involved.

During all my review of that night’s emergency communications and discussions with response personnel and friends who were with me at stack that night I have never encountered any piece of information to dispute the time of collapse as 2:42am.

I don't have it anymore, but I found out about the collapse via IRC from Keegan.

The log (hard drive wiped) was timestamped and it wasn't very long after 2:30. Early word was already starting to spread before 2:40.

What happened that night by far outweighs the matter of when it happened and we don't need someone who was 4 years from coming to our campus to tell us that.

Yes, it happened just before 2:30.

2:28 was the generally accepted time of the collapse.

I got up from my desk shortly after 2:30, looked at my TV (on the "Bonfire Channel" ), saw what happened, stood stunned, changed the channel back and forth a few times in disbelief, then snapped to, woke up my floor, threw on my grodes, and ran to the field.

I guess I typed something to NoAC as well at some point in there, too...

No arguing here. It happened when it happened. If you want to assign a number to it then 2:42 is the most accurate I've seen based on information available to me. This topic usually comes up on here once a year ( usually closer to the anniversary ) and I think I replied once a few years back with the same info as above but other than that I've never involved myself in the discussion. I’m not refuting any other time stamp claims but rather explaining the origin of 2:42.

I had NO opinion whatsoever on the time, and because of that I didn't say I had one. I did have an opinion however, that I thought it would be unfortunate if we reduced the tragedy to an argument (or whatever) about what time it happened.

NOAC... Stating that you found out via IRC, what OS were y'all running at the time? As I recall Windows 98 had a flaw that made it notorious for losing time on the display clock when the system was either sleeping or in screen saver.

Do you have to know square personally or just know who he is? Cause I want cookies, but I only know who he is, I havent formally been introduced.
