I was speaking with Protestants again, and have found that they prefer a cross without corpus, because "Christ is no longer hanging on the cross".

I mentioned to them that the cross itself is no longer standing either, so if they're going to show the cross itself at some time, why not with God's supreme sacrifice being shown, and they mentioned it was somehow humiliating to Christ.

My question is, if the cross is supposed to resemble the cross that Jesus was crucified on, why aren't there nail holes and blood smeared on it?

I don't understand why the cross means anything if not for the sacrifice of Christ. It's just a wooden-T without Christ's sacrifice.

I would be against it because it violates the second commandment. Although, I think displaying the cross is weird in itself. Like we would wear the electric chair around our necks if Christ were executed today. Or a syringe. I wonder when Christians started this practice.

22 For Jews demand signs and Greeks desire wisdom, 23 but we proclaim Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, 24 but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

Regarding the 2nd commandment, wasn't that kind of answered with the iconoclast heresies?

If God came to earth to die on the electric chair, I would wear it. It's the greatest symbol of love the world has ever known.

Yes. We had a recent thread that I am (or should be) anathema for not venerating images of saints and Christ.

And no, the greatest symbol of love the world has ever known is the Eucharist.

The body of Christ isn't……the body of Christ?

The Catholic Church believes the Eucharist is Calvary, the holy sacrifice recreated (but not Re sacrificed) of Christ offering his body and blood.

Look at the "embossed" image in the host... Baroque period painting by Jan Davidsz de Heem highlighting Catholic belief here.
