Suppose you kill somebody via a quick acting poison or suffocate them with a pillow or render them unconscious via some modality and then immediately suspend them from the ceiling with a belt or shoe laces? It's not difficult to fake a suicide (especially with experts like the Mossad). Not only that, the unofficial accounts said they tried to resuscitate him = a disturbed crime scene.

Quite likely he hanged himself & the autopsy findings supported death by hanging, but the ME wants to make certain there are no red herrings & wants the results of toxicology & physical evidence examination-testing (DNA, fingerprints, etc.)....because it's an extremely high profile case with loads of peripheral consequences.
