This more than likely means one of two things.

1. Putin realizes Russia doesn't have the ability to take more of Ukraine and is ready for lasting peace.

Or

2. Putin realized he's bleeding in oil losses, can't repel Ukrainian drone/missile advances, and is having manpower shortages rendering their throw bodies at the front plan ineffective. So he simply needs time to rebuild defenses and take another bite at the apple later.

It definitely means he is losing right now

Translation: Our war with Ukraine has culminated and we're totally incapable of achieving any meaningful military objective. Our supply lines are overextended, we're experiencing serious manpower/supply shortages, and our energy sector and economy are a train wreck. Continued public approval is iffy. Overall, the next 12 months look even worse. We can't even stop Ukrainian attacks on Moscow and St. Petersburg. So we're hoping for a cease fire soon that will let us drag out negotiations as long as possible before it's too late.

Get back with me when Putin's terms for peace don't include Ukrainian territorial, economic, and political concessions that he has no way of securing militarily without offensive nuclear deployment.

He doesn't want peace until he's willing to compromise. As of now he just urges capitulation in different ways.

By the way, Putin is so interested in peace that he just threatened Armenia with the Ukraine playbook if they don't get back in his pocket and stop trying to improve themselves economically via stronger EU ties.

LOL...he really is getting more Hitleresque by the day....barks at Finland about NATO and "settled" territory, then proceeds to threaten Armenia.

Hitler (Putin) claimed the annexation was merely uniting ethnic Germans (Russians), arguing that 3.5 (8.3) million Germans (Russians) in Czechoslovakia (Ukraine) needed to be freed from "oppression".

"Sudetenland (Ukraine) is my last territorial demand in Europe (Eastern Europe)"

"He [Czechoslovak President Edvard Bene] (Zelenskyy) will either accept this offer and finally give freedom to the Germans (ethnic Russians), or we will take this freedom ourselves!".

There's a reason that the territorial concessions he most stringently insists on include Ukraine's most heavily fortified defensive areas. If he can get that gifted to him then he can easily crawfish on whatever"peace deal" he makes and steamroll over quite a bit of additional land. Not like anyone would step in and stop him.

So, now the EU was the problem and not NATO, or national security, or Nazis, or ethnic Russian, or radioactive bats, or…

Time for Ukraine to drop the bridge. They need to send a swarm of drones and cruise missiles to deplete the air defense and 'hide' a few F16s somewhere in the mix.

Too bad we didn't re-arm the Germans and have them help us fight Russia at the end of WW2 as Patton suggested.

I feel confident if putin would pull back to south of the Dnipro River + X KM and get to keep Crimea the Ukes would agree.

Without the bridge Crimea is not as valuable to Putin in that equation above.
