For the small amount I could make (could also lose some of it), it's worth it for me to let them handle it.

But I agree with your point. And I wish for the same reason, we didnt have withholding on our paychecks. Move tax day to September, eliminate withholding, and maybe people would vote a tad differently.
lol well it was someone else's point. But I would support banks and mortgage companies having to pay interest on what they hold in escrow as well as any entity holding someone's funds as a deposit.

Even as a conservative, it cracks me up when Republicans scream that illegal aliens aren't paying their "fair share".

Their rent goes toward property taxes that their apartment complexes or rent houses are paying. And they're filling the state coffers with sales tax.

They aren't contributing to state unemployment nor paying federal income tax or social security, to be fair. And their remittance back to the old country is another reason why they got shoved up north to begin with.

State of Texas is smart not having an income tax

I will say that the legislature's efforts to reduce property taxes is working. I paid far less this year than last, and my home's taxable value increased the maximum 10% (actual appraisal increase was about 25%).

I view this as similar but different. You can effectively opt out of HOA dues by not living in a community with a HOA. You can't opt out of real estate taxes.
Yeah you can. Go find an island somewhere far, far away from civilization. If you want to live in a first world country, there is a cost of doing business.
Businesses do everything possible to keep costs down. Governments do everything possible to justify keeping costs as high as possible so they can fleece more money out of you.

Kind of a differnce, but I honestly don't expect you to truly understand that. Go back to grovelling at the feet of your overlords hoping they will treat you well.
Again, if you want a government tailored to your desires, move somewhere else. Otherwise, you are fully consenting to the government elected by the people in the area you reside.

It's too bad these things are immutable. If there was some sort of process for effecting change in law and policy, like a political process, that would be helpful.

And if there was such a mechanism, then it would make total sense for people to express their opinions about it and engage in discussions on forums designed for that purpose.

But instead I guess the only thing we can do is move to a desert island or welcome the status quo because Big Brother knows best and is such a fair and efficient steward.

Ahh yes, the old "move somewhere else" bit.

I consent to the government stealing my money only because not doing so means I would likely end up in jail, and I have bigger priorities. Doesn't mean that I don't vote against such theft every chance I get though.

I prefer you and your ilk to move to California where your mentality and policies are already in place. That works better for both of us.

They pay a share, but certainly not their fair share.

Especially if they are off the books cash only type work where they don't pay taxes. A whole lot don't register their vehicles either, or pay a bunch of ther things the rest of us pay.

100% Hose A and Hose B waiting in the parking lot at Home Depot aren't claiming their income on a W9 and setting aside X% of that cash to send to the IRS.

A state sales tax should be implemented in lieu of property taxes. That way you get to decide your tax burden and everybody actually does pay their fair share. It would also reduce the power of local governments and other taxing authorities because your tax burden would no longer be tied to your home and what they arbitrarily decide the value is.

It would give state and local governments incentive to promote business because more spending would equate to higher tax revenues in the coffers.

But nahhh, let's just keep an old antiquated system in place that nobody actually likes and that is a collusionary system that, not surprsingly, punishes those that maintain their property. Because that's what we've always done!

It's working in the fact that it's a temporary measure that won't be long term. So in a year or two, your property taxes will shoot way the hell up.

I doubt seriously the state will ever actually address the craptastic system we have now, not at least until a signficant number of people realize that they will soon be paying nearly a mortgage payment per month in property taxes and revolt.

what you call costs of business many call rape and pillaging. the amount of revenue that is generated on just one dollar for all the items it gets taxed is insane. our government is so over the top wasteful it makes you wonder why we continue to participate.

Today is the day your state rent check, local government tax fees and school funding checks are due.

I realize a whole lot don't even bother looking at this because your mortgage company escrows for you instead of you doing it yourself (they thank you for that interest they earn off of your money, BTW),
Escrow account funds cannot be used for investments. Escrow accounts are net losers for mortgage companies. The real money comes from loan modifications.

I talk to a number of small business owners and their employees and the number one question I get is "why aren't there taxes being taken out of my check?". People don't care what their tax bill is, they care that they overpay so they get a refund. Few even understand the basics of taxes such as rates, tiers, deductions and credits. At $13/hr with two kids you aren't going to owe any taxes so why should they withhold them from your check? The vast majority simply don't understand the system well enough to know it's their money. The refund represents savings and they know they aren't disciplined enough to do it on their own.
The federal government was never meant to be this powerful.

Yep, they know just how much to squeeze and then stop. Then you can start saving to pay for the coming year. Isn't it something when the politicians are saying that we're going to get some tax rebate money back this year only to find out our homeowner's insurance has gone up again.

That's great, for you! When you get older you might not be able to bend and twist taking care of your ***** Pay the HOA dues, and let the "association" take care of it.

Lol. Yeah I consider paying my lawn guy to take care of my property, but most of my neighbors do their own lawns and only pay for things like trimming trees.

The only HOA that ever did anything for my house was in Valley Ranch where they did all mowing outside of the back yard.
