France is holding the first round of early parliamentary elections on Sunday that could bring the country's first far-right government since Nazi occupation during World War II.

The second round is on July 7. The outcome of the vote is highly uncertain. Turnout is unusually high.

Love the spin. Nazis are far left collectivists hate. Nothing but associated Pravda.
Agreed. As has been explained on here repeatedly, in Europe "far right" just means home nation loving, or patriotic.

Still doesn't explain it because if anyone loves themselves it's the French. It's only the last 30 years they've become idiots.

My favorite is when people label Joe Rogan or Elon Musk far right. The first dude eats mushrooms and wants to vote for Bernie Sanders and the 2nd guy has something like 8 illegitimate children and is probably destined to end up like Howard Hughes

It's a slur. Notice you never hear anyone labeled "far left," even though they all are.

I have some close friends and colleagues that are French ex-pats that immigrated to Montreal, Canada. They are despondent about LePen's apparently imminent victory. In their mind it is tantamount to the rise of the Fourth Reich and they are certain that if Teump is elected in the US, that is what will happen.

They are both very hard workers for a US based company but they are terrified that LePen and the conservatives will enact real reforms to French welfare state policies. It's what they grew up with and all they have ever known back home and yet, they both left. I bite my lip and try not to smile when the topic comes up.

It absolutely is a slur. "Far Left" is not even the lexicon of the media anymore. You are either pro-Democracy or "far right".

Never mind the "far right" in Europe is still pro cradle to grave welfare. They just want their original culture to survive and not overrun by third and fourth world inferior cultures.

I have read that Macron and the far left party are withdrawing candidates alternatively/as a joint team (in the second round) where they can to make sure they take away as many national rally opportunities as possible. Example;

Ah yes, the "anti-fascists" who refuse to tolerate any political viewpoint that is at odds with their own, under threat of violence. One of these days somebody needs to buy them a mirror so they can find the true fascists once and for all.

France's economy never made sense to me. Roughly on par with Germany and Britain but without all the manufacturing or a global finance.

But after you factor in their special relationship with Africa the picture becomes clear. They control several countries directly through their installed puppet governments to extract uranium, oil, and other resources at below market costs. the French Foreign Legion is the muscle to control and protect everything. toTo top it all off they run the French African Frank currency in those countries and manipulate the exchange rate of that currency for the items they don't directly control through a government or the legion.

Without this set up France would be third world poor.

One of the few smart things that France has done is build out their nuclear infrastructure. 40-50% of their energy production has been nuclear which essentially made them self sustaining. They were talking about winding down some of that before all this happened, You can bet these nimrods will try to shut it all down and move to wind and solar.

France did this because they get the uranium at a steep discount as I alluded to in my above post. The incentive was there for sure.

Plentiful and relatively cheap power generation capability covers a multitude of other economic sins. Even while they are screwing everything else up, they can sell electricity to the Germans.

It's still bad but this tells me euros are even poorer than I could have ever imagined. This is about the 90% tax on anything above $400k in France that I posted above.

Basically almost every political party on both the right and the left has imploded from betrayals and people switching sides.

I'm sure the French will start rioting soon too.

Europe is panicking at the rise of far right extreme anti-immigration parties.
Far right extreme anti-immigrant parties or just anti-immigration parties? Who comes up with the modifying adjectives?

What I've tried to convey for the last fifteen years is starting to occur in France:

Almost all conflicts are driven by the competition for scarce resources between non-homogeneous groups. And once the pendulum starts swinging….it always swings way too far in both directions. This could get real ugly in the coming decade and it shouldn't be a surprise when it does.

The French actually have a government body that chooses/regulates new words so that they don't become too "anglicanized" over time. Seriously, run by the immortals. They've been into censorship/language control for centuries longer than anyone else.

My swag is Macron will go with the 'centrist' communist swamp critter:
Quote:

Franois Bayrou, a centrist heavyweight and President of the MoDem party, has also emerged as a viable option.

Bayrou, who met with Macron over lunch on December 5, is seen as a bridge-builder capable of expanding the French President's central bloc by reaching out to Greens and Socialists.

His reputation as a unifier may also help Macron broaden his support base in the National Assembly.
