What Grager's GO actually said- to 'The people of Texas'.
Galveston Texas June 19th 1865.
General Orders
No. 3.
The people of Texas are informed that, in accordance with a proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free. This involves an absolute equality of personal rights and rights of property between former masters and slaves, and the connection heretofore existing between them becomes that between employer and hired labor.
The freedmen are advised to remain quietly at their present homes and work for wages. They are informed that they will not be allowed to collect at military posts and that they will not be supported in idleness either there or elsewhere.
By order of Major General Granger
F.W. Emery
Major A.A. Genl.
Note some of the provisions of the order were promptly ignored, I suspect.
I think you meant to say "racial jungle."Gigem314 said:Did you say…Delaware?HumbleAg04 said:

Luckily St. Floyd died to free us all from work on June 19th.Tanya 93 said:
It should have stayed a Texas holiday and not this kiss ass woke thing.
I ask people in MO what Juneteenth is, because they celebrate it.
They have no clue about it origin.
It is weak assed pandering from an even weaker assed administration

Hopefully your party isn't the one that has wreaked absolute havoc on the black community since the 60's.Agsinheart said:

And most of the idiot masses will think it is the day slavery in the US ended, which of course it is not.
Making it a federal holiday was nothing but pandering.
If one wants a holiday celebrating the end of slavery, it should be when it actually ended, with the ratification of the 13th Amendment.
Juneteenth on the national level is cultural appropriation of a regional celebration by Black Texans.

It's ironic that the vast majority of the folks that will be off of work because of Juneteenth are white people.
Black lives seem to matter the LEAST to black people in black urban communities that have been almost destroyed by the Democrat party over the decades. More and more black Americans are starting to realize this. Trust.Agsinheart said:
Don't you think this isn't what we should be arguing about in a forum like this. I choose peace, and I promise you #blacklivesmatters

To me, Juneteenth is a recognition of what I call America's second founding.
Despite our nation's extraordinary founding documents about equality, this country was founded as a slave-owning state. That is our birth defect. But the words in those carefully crafted documentswritten by great men who were themselves flawed human beingsultimately lit the way toward a more perfect union. In some sense, the history of the United States is a story of striving to make their soaring wordsWe the Peoplereal to every American. It's the story of becoming what we profess to be.
When I was sworn in as 66th Secretary of State by Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsberg, I glanced up at a portrait of Benjamin Franklin in the State Department. I wondered what he would have thought of this great-granddaughter of slaves and child of Jim Crow Birmingham pledging to defend the Constitution of the United States, which had infamously counted her ancestors as "three-fifths" of a person. I wanted to believe that Franklin would have liked history's turn toward justice and taken my appointment in stride.
Today, just as I once did with my parents, I will celebrate Juneteenth. I will think about my ancestors and what they must have felt when they were liberated from slavery. And I will give thanks for being born in a country where such moral progress is possible. That is worth celebrating not just by black Americans but by all of us.

FJB was probably still around back then.

I have no problem recognizing the significance of Juneteenth and celebrating what it means to certain segments of our citizenry. But making it a federal holiday makes about as much sense as making Cinco de Mayo a federal holiday.
Probably trying to plagiarize the Gettysburg Address and get that ten percent for the big guy.AggieVictor10 said:Gigem314 said:Did you say…Delaware?HumbleAg04 said:
