The dam will not fail but the people who built in the flood plain below Lake Livingston will be reminded that there is a reason why you do not build in a flood plain.. The Trinity River Authority has covered their collective asses.

Yep, guess all those people in Houston a couple of years ago failed to realize that

Not an expert at all but my guess is they are worried about this part of the spillway, eroding further up toward the damn dam.

That's the same thing that's happening at the big jetty in Port O.

Have driven through Liberty about 4 times in the last 3 months (including last week) and am shocked by the continued level of water in low lying areas surrounding the Trinity.

FM 563 going south of Liberty was closed for many weeks. Area got four feet of rain with Harvey and the water didn't stay up 1/4 the time it has been up for this recent event. Took ages for it to drain. Still high, but not over the road like it was.

Free market. If folks downstream are concerned, they should pool their money and reinforce the dam.

Considering the dam is owned and operated by TRA, the only named purpose of the lake is water supply (not flood control, recreation or hydropower) and the water in the lake is owned 70% by the City of Houston and 30% by TRA, congrats on the uninformed post. The state and city would lose many millions of dollars if the dam failed.

After seeing some recent pics, it looks like there is about 2ft of water flowing out of the gates, not the wide open pic before. The concrete apron doesn't appear to have any damage so the only thing is scouring around the wing walls. O\it appears they have had this problem before so they know how to fix it.

Looks like every lake upstream is above full so it may take some time to get them all down to full. Lake Livingston is just about there.

Truth. My parents own one of the largest farms on that road and they got stranded there about a week till they could get out safely.

I grew up on that road and have cousins that still live on it. Once the water receded to the point a higher profile pickup could go down it, a friend of mine drove through and there were three cars submerged along the side of the road. Only a couple inches of metal (top of car or trunk) was showing.

Any concern about this with a large rain event looming?

The TRA announced yesterday or today they would be finished with whatever it was they were doing right before the rains start.
