Seems like they got their Ivy League degrees before those universities were compromised.

I don't think it is hate of all educated. Elitism is those who think they are superior because of where they got their degree and the fact they have a degree. It is very similar during COVID, if you brought up something common sense, like wearing a mask outside in the sun didn't help. Elitist would say, "Are you a doctor?"

This can also be called credentialism. When you say there are only two genders, an elitist would say, "Are you a biologist?" Which means that only education and where your education came from matters.

Common sense folks, say it is important to get an education, but it is not the only thing. There is a lot to learn outside of a university. Even Elon Musk has said as much.

Universities are indoctrination centers for the left in a massive way. They constantly brainwash young people to believe in progressive socialism. They are the fundamental problem with America and the world frankly.

At a fundamental level, this can happen by appealing to peoples arrogance and making them feel part of the elite class. The educated elite think they have a right to think for all of us and to manage our lives.

Universities are corrupt institutions and are more about money than education. They need to be cleansed, frankly. Progressive socialism has to be balanced and it isn't.
THIS.

This is a load of crap. I've spent a lot of years working on four college degrees, two of which are directly related to the function of government in society. One of those two is from a prestigious private university in Vermont. I have never - NOT ONCE - experienced any professor push an agenda or ideology on their students.

This has been a favorite F16 anti-education talking point for years and no one has ever provided any empirical evidence to demonstrate the validity of such claims. Just because people with college education tend to be more liberal on the political spectrum does not mean universities are "indoctrination centers." Correlation != Causation.

Something related to this has been pointed out as one of the recent failing of the Democrats' strategy - White, suburban, college-degreed Democrats approach working class voters and lesser-educated voters with the message, "We want to make you like us." That message isn't resonating, and those Democrats don't accept and embrace the value of trade schools, skilled labor, etc. in society. A college degree isn't the answer for everyone. If some Dems want to push free education, who not focus on trade schools instead of universities?

If so it is misplaced. Unlike anything with "critical race" in front of it and most Liberal Arts social and political things relating to identity politics, it is not at all useless or counter-constructive. Music forms the foundation to much of civilization and understanding of the notes even underlies many formulas.

Only ~30% of the electorate has a college degree; and most of those now are bull**** liberal arts/humanities degrees. You can't get elected without getting a majority of the "uneducated".

The "uneducated" built this nation. Only three founding fathers had college degrees.

ROI. If a wealthy kid wants an arts degree from a private school: whatever. But for most arts degrees have become lost time, debt, and a mostly useless credential.

And if you want to make a living off the arts the classroom is rarely the path to "making it." Unless it's one of the intensive arts schools - the classroom is often a detour taken by hobbyists who's presence in a classroom Is indicative of characteristics which won't lead to success in the field.

I've experienced a teacher/instructor/attending pushing an agenda at every single academic environment I've been a part of since middle school in the 70's. Perhaps the agenda was one you agreed with and so you didn't recognize it for what it was?

The Hate should be for the:
  • Universities who have far left bias in their hiring of Democrat professors - with end result of faculty that is overwhelmingly Democrat, which leads to faculty and Administration group think and intolerance for conservative rhetoric and campus wide clamp downs on free speech
  • Universities that allow liberal students to demonstrate, break laws, intimidate students. And, yet clamp down on conservative students for conservative rhetoric....
  • TV and Newspapers, who have far left bias in their hiring of of journalists/analysts with end result of newsrooms that are overwhelimingly Democrat

The point of the post.

Ive seen a lot of exit polls that show educated people tend to vote left. And then lots of posts that laugh at this and immediately scoff at "educated" voters.

This is wrong and there is a lot more nuance involved. Dangerous mental gymnastics to start just making fun of educated people.

Be specific. Use facts. Get to know the specific voter before generalizing something like that.

The current disdain for higher education is based on the simple fact that way too many kids are trapped into the mindset of thinking only a college degree will save their life. Too many kids enter college just to hang out and avoid going to work. Too many graduates with worthless degrees and hefty loans to repay. Too many colleges/universities charging too much because Uncle Sam is subsidizing it either directly via loans or indirectly via grants to fund dubious research. Joe Welder ain't gonna agree to pay for that BA in Medieval Gender Studies anymore. Elon is gonna chop into the tall weeds and Higher Ed is gonna get mowed. Bring it on.

There are a lot of people in academia that can't or won't hack it in the private sector. They live in a bubble their entire careers and operate mostly on theory vs reality.

There are a lot of useless majors and people that get degree after degree without learning any marketable skills.

That being said, Republicans have course corrected a little too violently against higher education. Especially considering nearly everyone posting here had a bachelors and possibly a master's. There are useful degrees and some of our best and brightest are in STEM programs, law school, med school. Education needed reform but does not need to be demonized.

So, CNN is talking about how the Dems can win over "uneducated voters".

But, they are talking about people with or without college degrees, and the difference between the votes from those two camps. I can think of many, many different terms for skilled tradesman that don't have college degrees that is better than "uneducated."

I guarantee you that an airplane mechanic is more educated than someone with a social studies degree specializing in gender studies.

On the other side of the Aisle, you have the candidate for the POTUS Donald Trump asking his gardener his opinion on who the best pick for VP would be.

That is the difference that I find so distasteful. It's not that people get college degrees. More power to them. It's looking down your nose on everyone that didn't get a college degree that makes you look like an ass.

Until the Dems can internalize this, they are going to be irrelevant.

It's not educated voters that we are making fun of.

It is the democratic party and media figures that talk down about people without college degrees as somehow "uneducated". What is the definition of what they are calling an "uneducated" voter? Someone without a college degree. Like that makes that person somewhat less intelligent, or some kind of second class citizen.

It's fine to have that opinion. But, as long as the Dem party does, the GOP is going to continue to get the vote of everyone without an Ivy League college degree. They live in some alternate reality where their electricity, plumbing, air conditioning, cars, groceries, food, Amazon packages, internet, and cell phone reception all just magically appear out of nowhere and work perfectly, like there is not a huge army in this country making sure all of these things work, not only for people with college degrees, but for everyone.

And, if you invested in yourself, and are able to find a high-paying job where you don't have to worry about any of these things, and can afford to pay to have people worry about them, more power to you again. Focus on what you get paid a lot of money to do. It's the best use of your time.

But, as long as you look down your noses at anyone that is too busy helping make this country run to worry about your opinion on the best macaroon baker in the city, just get used to never winning an election again.

What is amazing is that these people are flabbergasted when it happens, like they need to learn even more highly niche knowledge in order to figure out how to rule these people well enough to get them to vote the way that you want them to vote.

There are plenty of rich people, educated people, and famous people that don't act that way. Trump, for all his faults, is also not one of them. And, that is the main reason why he won.

As someone with a music degree, currently pursuing a higher music degree, I can't LOLZ this enough. You are completely detached from reality if you think getting a degree "won't lead to success in the field" of music. There are a lot of factors that go into success, but higher education in music absolutely contributes significant value to one's ability to be a successful musician.

You do realize that a lot of successful business and healthcare professionals have undergrad degree in the liberal arts, right? Most of the majors that form the "liberal arts," e.g. history, economics, political science, classics, philosophy, sociology, etc. are grounded in the components of a classical education, such as critical thought, problem solving, analysis, communication, that often aid in advanced study, e.g. for medicine, law, or business.

Part of the issue is that we have turned a BA/BS into a general prerequisite to enter the workforce, which makes those degrees effectively the equivalent of what a High School diploma used to provide, without changing expectations. We have funneled far too many into colleges to pursue degrees that they don't really need to contribute to the workforce, leaving many with debt they can't afford based upon the professions they enter.
