No, but the point is, government is often grossly wrong and corrupt. That is rather stating the obvious I know.

I would rather have a private run prison with some effective government oversight than purely government run systems. But hey, I could go the other way around too. Government prison with a private consultant doing oversight and reporting to an independent committee.

Auction off convicted felons to third world countries in lots of 100, to secure, feed, & house them for their prison term. Should help considerably with US & state over spending issues while reducing recidivism.

Great start, but unless it also comes with immediate dismissal for all DEI employees, they will just be absorbed into other departments and continue rotting the fruit from the bottom up.

Nice.
Quote:

Pessimists are arguing that these executive orders can be overturned by a Democrat administration or the courts. But the pessimists totally misunderstand the strategic terrain around these issues.

Discussing executive orders, I wrote that "putting these orders in place shifts these issues from being politically settled to being politically contested."

After today, no DEI job ANYWHERE will be considered safe, thus crippling the industry and making it impossible for it to regain its former stature.
And Affirmative Action is on life support.

By having the government refuse to play by the left's playbook, we empower the private sector actors-- many of whom agree with us, to take action to eliminate their own DEI and affirmative action programs. Of course some will try to keep them, except under threat of legal action from the Trump administration. But these racist programs will never again be fully secure.

The left thought it's anti-white racist citadel was impregnable.

Today, Donald Trump led an army through the citadel's front gate and lit the whole place on fire.

President Trump's Day 1 immigration policies focus on hardening the border, mass deportations, and ending birthright citizenship.

Wendy Edelberg, director of the Hamilton Project and senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, joins Catalysts to explain how these measures could impact GDP.
"We estimated the GDP effects through two channels," Edelberg explains. "One, what would happen to the reduction in labor supply just from less immigration? But also, what would happen from less consumer spending?"

Edelberg says if you "add up both of those effects and you think about a realistic but dire scenario for immigration in 2025, that reduces GDP growth by almost a half a percentage point."

She also highlights that despite Trump's support for legal immigration, his previous term saw policies that restricted it, which could deter skilled immigrants and create a "stark decline in economic activity," especially in immigrant-dense areas.

These policies will affect Americans in various ways. "Immigrants have a relatively large footprint in the agricultural industry, for example, so I would absolutely expect a reduction in immigration to result in higher prices of agricultural goods, of the kind of food that you buy at the grocery store," Edelberg explains. "But on the flip side, I can imagine there being reduction in prices where immigrants are demanding fewer goods and services ... fewer immigrants in this country is going to mean less demand for places to live. That could put downward pressure on rent prices."

If employment is there, and the pay is reasonable, and welfare is absent, Americans will do the job and do it well.

Guessing that reduction is the headline. You know, before they quietly adjust it upward after the fact when no one's looking.
