Articles are starting to pop up about the US State Department's procurement forecast for 2025 including a $400 million order for armored Teslas. Of course Reddit and other leftists are freaking out about how this is the true corruption and that Musk is deciding to grant himself this contract.

The leftist claim is that Trump's transition team had the State Dept add it in. I have no idea if that's true, maybe it is. I do find it odd that we're buying armored Teslas at all, regardless of which administration is responsible. If it was Trump's transition team, then Bad Trump and Bad Musk.

What really surprises me, though, is the NAICS code used for this and several other armored/EV vehicle procurements:

Amored Teslas - 311999 - All Other Miscellaneous Food Manufacturing
Armored Sedan - 312111 - Soft Drink Manufacturing
Armored BMWs - 312112 - Bottled Water Manufacturing
Armored EV (not sedan) - 312113 - Ice Manufacturing

There is an easy explanation because I worked right in the middle of the cluster mess. Under EO 14057 and others EV vehicles were the only vehicles being purchase. Those could have been year 5 of year 7 approved funds. Highly doubt they were purchased at the last moment.

The major problem that every place had ( army, navy, Air Force and all other govt agency) unsolved issue concerning infrastructure. EV cars are heavier, less # of EV for parking garages, speed of charging , adequate power distribution, and no one had any solutions , but they kept moving forward. I know that mistakes made that collectively cost over $100M to tge tax payer. No one was fired.

As for Tesla. There are simply not to many option to buy when shopping around for heavy armored vehicles, trucks and buses.

From an acceleration and handling / control perspective, EV's are miles ahead of any ICE vehicle.

Now, in terms of being able to refuel and not die in an EMP attack, different story.

It's a fact Teslas were the most recalled car last year.

It's a fact that almost all of those were over the air updates.

Biden's Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm said that we'd have a carbon neutral military by 2030. Almost as important to war-fighting capabilities as tuck-compatible uniforms and genderless latrines (our other top priorities).

The left has been screaming for weeks that Congress appropriates funds and spending amounts. How could Trump have put this in, now or in December (if that were even possible)?

The vast majority are, even if on when it hit.

Jalopnik had an article about it several years ago. The idea that an EMP will kill most vehicles is a myth. A myth based upon a solid guess (e.g. your point about electronics-heavy cars), but a myth nonetheless.

Wonder why this wasn't axed immediately while he was mowing down everything else.
