I have to admit this was the first time I ever heard explained the concept of Preference Falsification. Definitely going to be looking for the book, "Private Truth, Public Lies" by Kuran, next time I'm at half priced books.
In the clip above, Lex discusses the concept with Marc Andreessen. It is an incredibly accurate description of why we are witnessing such a rapid political and cultural shift back to the right today. The basic premise is that people have been privately harboring views they believe to be true all the while falsely virtue signaling in public things they know to be false. The power structure attempting to control the narrative is completely unaware of the underlying currents due to the sampling error generated by public lies. However, once a crack develops in the narrative, the dam comes crashing down. Marc believes Elon buying twitter was the initial crack that has led to the current cultural revolution.
"Everyone knows it is a lie, ...everyone knows it is fake. it isn't a truth; it is enforcement of compliance".
