WSJ is going gaga over the Mex President for having "handled" Trump. All that happened is they had a call and agreed to postpone any tariff for 30 days so Mex can come back with a proposal.

Quote:

On February 3, after negotiations, President Trump agreed to pause the tariffs for 30 days. This decision came after Mexico committed to deploying 10,000 troops to its northern border to enhance security. The pause is intended to provide time for further discussions and potential resolution of the issues at hand.

As far as I can see, Trump was just nice to her because it is part of his plan. He doesn't really want tariffs just for fun, he wants to not allow Mexico to apply tariffs on the US and he wants them to stop illegal migration.

What I want to know is how much of USAID money gets funneled into WSJ to write meaningless pieces like this.

President Claudia Sheinbaum impressed Trump by sticking to her guns without antagonizing him

Quote:

MEXICO CITYWhen President Trump called her last week, President Claudia Sheinbaum was prepared to speak with a U.S. leader who wouldn't yield on tariffs. Instead, she negotiated a deal that world leaders are studying for their own trade talks with the U.S.

The Feb. 3 call was tough, often tense and ran long, almost 45 minutes, according to people familiar with the matter. Sheinbaumwho alternated between an interpreter and speaking English to make an emphatic pointstayed on message, they said, parrying Trump on trade, drugs and migration in ways that caught his attention without escalating into a disagreement.

"One must speak in Trump's language," said a person familiar with the discussions.
Quote:

Since taking office in October, Sheinbaum has surprised observers in Mexico with her flexibility on some matters of ideology, especially with the local business community and foreign investors.
"Over the years Sheinbaum acquired great pragmatism," said Sergio Aguayo, a Mexican human-rights activist and scholar. "But Trump is also deeply pragmatic."
Tension was high before the Feb. 3 telephone call. The previous Saturday, in announcing the tariffs, the White House said Mexican drug-trafficking organizations "have an intolerable alliance with the government of Mexico." Sheinbaum rejected the assertion as slander, and said the U.S. was doing nothing to curb fentanyl use or combat its sale on U.S. streets.

Like Trudeau, Sheinbaum was prepared to pull the trigger on retaliatory tariffs on U.S. exports from Republican strongholds, according to people familiar with the plan. Unlike Trudeau, she refrained from disclosing the measures until after her call with Trump. The idea was to avoid cornering him and offer an off-ramp, these people said.
Sheinbaum and her top advisers believed Trump wasn't bluffing about imposing tariffs on Mexico. "I was convinced that within the first minute of Tuesday, the 25% tariffs on all Mexican exports would come into effect," said Mexican Economy Minister Marcelo Ebrard.
The key was to emphasize bilateral cooperation and open the doors to talks before unilateral measures were imposed, Sheinbaum said shortly after the call. One example was the progress made in curbing illegal migration, which fell more than 80% in recent months because of coordinated, bilateral enforcement efforts. The leaders agreed to schedule high-level meetings to work on migration, security and trade.

Mexico is narcissistic

They try to claim that that is ONLY their citizens getting deported. And use "student protests" to show they are "down with their people".

Meanwhile…..Mexico/China allowed MILlIONS of foreign nationals to enter the United States unvetted.

Mexico will push the word sovereignty all they want……but they aren't sovereign.

I just immediately feel a visceral reaction every time I see a picture of that cartel puppet puta. She needs to fear the US as much as she fears the cartels.

One more thing….Mexico fails to recognize the Democratically elected Edmundo Gonzalez as President of Venezuela. They love to play this game.

Bad America=recognizing dictatorships.

Screw Mexico.

WSJ News side is a disaster. They are hard left and having more trouble coping than most. They got Community Noted yesterday for making up something Vance did not say.

I had to remove their breaking news headlines from my phone pop ups because there framing of every story had become laughable.

WSJ Editorial is still very solid.

The paper made a huge mistake in the hiring of their latest leader. She has been a horrible hire. They need to go another direction and quickly.

It's funny that the left think this is some kind of victory. All Trump did is put a pause on it because she started to act like she was gonna shape up and as soon as she doesn't, he'll slam her again.

I used to think 20 years ago that WSJ was right wing/Rep leaning. Was I wrong? Has it swung left in recent years?

Until the cartels are gone and the corruption ends, their president stays a figurehead with no teeth. She's very limited on what she can do and the 10,000 Mexican troops won't do anything to piss-off the cartels.

She is not even in the same ballpark as Trump, let alone playing the negotiation game.
