The Vatican announced on Friday that Pope Francis was in the hospital for a respiratory infection, believed to be bronchitis. They announced today that his condition is clinically complex and it will require a longer hospital stay. He is awake, alert, able to perform some functions and make video calls. Just something to keep an eye on.

Interesting that the article talks about his daily calls to the Gaza parish. A lot of people may not know this, but there's a Catholic community in Gaza led by an Argentinian priest. He was able to speak to them on phone Friday and Saturday but communicated via text message Sunday.

He's 88. Lost a part of lung years ago, so anything affecting his lungs is even more serious for him.

Agreed.

Now it's time to say a prayer for El Papa and hope he is Okay.

Time to call it a day like Ratzinger did. Retire and enjoy your days.

I liked this Pope as he said some positive stuff. Usually all they care about is "heathens" and how to "convert the world" which is total bs.

Time for a new modern pope.

Surely he isn't receiving any high dollar care, and is in fact getting the same treatment/doctors that migrants around Rome would get, right?

Are you saying Francis is pro-choice?

He is at Gemelli, which is clinically probably the best hospital in Italy but it is not anything one would consider a fancy place. It's where the popes get treated. There's a statue of JPII outside.

Typical. Throw a comment and run away without justifying it.

That, or maybe saying the Pope is pro-murdering 9-month-old healthy babies as they're coming out of the womb?

Israel begged for a "modern" king. They got Saul.

How did that work out for them?

Prayers for the Leader of Christ's Church.

I will say that while he is probably a socialist at heart, he has been closer to the faith and converted more souls with his leadership than most.

(Without his leadership this might not be viewed as a modern scientifically proven miracle)

His political takes are typical of most Argentinians, but he is also a victim of western media twisting everything he says.

If the Catholic Church really cared about poverty, they would pick a pro capitalist pope.

for false christ's and false prophets will arise, and they will show great signs and wonders so as to lead astray. if possible even the elect.

this pope is a false prophet. nothing he said leads people to christ.

the devil knows scripture this false prophet used scripture when it helped him lead peole astray. he believes there are multiple paths to heaven not jut through christ

you may like what he said but he is wrong. i am not equipped to pass judgement but i know enough to know he is wrong and it is purposeful.

Maybe there is another version of Pope John Paul II to step up and be the Pope the catholic church needs right now.

Regardless of all media misinformation about things the current Pope has said and done (and NOT done - despite the MSM's and catholic bashers attempts to credit him with), he has done a lot of harm to the Church's image.

I nominate Cardinal Dolan. But since I grew up Southern Baptist & Pentecostal and now a non-practicing Methodist, then I am not sure my ballot counts.

Cardinal Dolan would be a wonderful choice. I have personally met him in Austin and actually had a beer with him. Very personable man who seems very genuine.

I would argue that the entire world needs this. Not just a voice for the Catholic Church, but one that can bring sanity to the social decay around the world.

It's not this Pope that matters. It's the people that decided he should be the Pope. Those people are not in the hospital and will not be retiring.

It won't matter because the whole of the higher levels of priesthood are corrupt and they were the ones who put him there. Catholic church hierarchy needs a divine intervention.

The power structure of the Catholic Church, much like many Western countries now, is beyond repair.

For the Catholics on here, please do not take this as me bashing on your faith. I live in a heavily Catholic community and support many of their causes and charities locally. They do plenty good. I do find the Vatican and larger hierarchy repulsive though.
