Still, I would never "attempt to engage" any shark that was 6 foot in length in a way where it is going to be close enough to bite off my hand.

Wade fishing Galv. bay at night (~ midnight), by myself. Didn't notice my dip net attached to my waist had drifted away from my side. Tide changed...the thing drifted back and brushed up against my calf...thought I was going to need 911 and the paddles to restart my heart!

I have snorkeled with small lemon sharks and have a shaky video. The generally don't want anything to do with humans unless you are feeding them scraps.

Snorkeled with a bull on two different occasions, both near West Caicos. We were close to a wall and a big boy from the deep came up to check us out. We got back in the boat in a hurry.

Bulls are known for bump biting. Will take a bite of something just to figure out what it is.

Im not even implying this didn't happen, I am just having a hard time envisioning the mechanics of losing both hands to a shark while taking a selfie with an iPhone.

Maybe she had the phone just at water level while holding with both hands? But then I don't get the angle that a selfie would require.

Chevy Chase's Land Shark had a coke habit too.

She won't be doing that again I'd say but it has nothing to do with intelligence or lack thereof.

EXTREMELY aggressive and the most dangerous shark to humans, pound for pound one of the most powerful shark bites so amputating limbs is easy for them. Can not imagine trying to "engage" with one

Used to do a lot of kayak fishing in fairly shallow water and it was more comfortable for me to sit cross ways with my feet and lower legs in the water than facing forward in the kayak. But if I saw a bull shark, those feet and legs went back inside the kayak until I got out of it on dry land, lol.

I doubt she lost both hands in one bite. My guess is she was trying to get her first arm free when it got the second.

After reading the article I realized where the Canadian was at.

Thompson's Cove is right down the beach from Turtle Cove. The locals take out fisherman from that marina. On the way back in the charter companies clean the fish and dump it right outside the cove as they arrive. Basically chumming for sharks in that area everyday.

I had a charter with a guide that also worked for TCI's version of the Coast Guard. They had intercepted some Haitian drug runners and arrested them and were hauling them back to Turtle Cove. One of the Haitians decided that he would jump out of the boat when they approached the shore and make a run for it. He jumped into the water, but when he saw all the sharks surround him, he headed straight back to the boat. The sharks didn't get him and the Coast Guard got a big laugh out of it.
