A Texas teen accused of murder was released from police custody after his bond was drastically reduced from $800,000 to $100 per charge.

Stephon Martin Morson, 19, was released from the Travis County Jail in Austin, Texas, on Saturday after he posted bail.

Morson is accused in the shooting death of 20-year-old Keshawn Cage, who police found with a gunshot wound to the head back in October.

The Travis County Jail told Fox News Digital that Morson was booked on Nov. 6, 2024, and charged with murder and tamper/fabricate physical evidence.

Austin Police Association President Michael Bullock told Fox News Digital that Morson's punishment was "not enough."

"For a man accused of murder to have his bond reduced so low that he's able to walk free is a slap in the face to Austinites who could potentially become the next victim. The revolving door of violent criminals constantly released back onto the streets of Austin is exactly why we have seen violent crime increase," Bullock said.

He added: "The District Attorney, County Attorney, and Judges here have clearly demonstrated they are not interested in looking after the safety of Austinites nor working with law enforcement. All they are interested in is their own political agenda. We've seen criminals released on bond who, while free, kill someone. The real question is when will enough be enough?"

Bullock said this is not the first time Travis County judges and magistrates have drastically reduced bond for a person accused of murder or sexual assault.

"This is not exclusive to just one judge. This has happened across multiple different courts," Bullock said. "We've had some where they may not reoffend, but then we've had others who do reoffend. People that get out on bond and they murder someone else when they're already accused of a violent crime."

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott also commented on Morson's release and called the move "outrageous."

"This is outrageous. It's why I made bail reform an Emergency Item," Abbott wrote in a post on X.

Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick also backed Abbott and said he is ready to play "hardball" to keep violent offenders from being released on bail during a special session last week to pass a bail reform package.

On Wednesday, the bills cleared the first of many obstacles to becoming law. The Senate Criminal Justice Committee passed the bail reform package by a vote of 6-0.

"I'm grateful that Gov. Abbott declared bail reform an emergency item for the current legislative session. Too many innocent people, both citizens and law enforcement officers, have become targets of criminals due to irresponsible bail amounts that allow violent criminals to go free," Bullock said. "We are a nation of law and order, but activist judges and prosecutors that are interested in their own agenda rather than the law are eroding that principle."

Crime victims' advocates in Texas have been trying to get tougher bail legislation on the books for years, especially in certain cases involving egregious crimes. In years past, many criminal offenders in Harris County were released on low bond or no bond at all, with some going on to reoffend, sometimes violently, according to Rania Mankarious, the CEO of Crime Stoppers of Houston.

This is a crime against humanity. Stephon Morson shot someone in the head and gets out on $100 bond. The only people in the whole country that know this is happening are Tucker Carlson viewers. Tucker has 3.7 million subscribers on Youtube. So just one percent of the US population know this is happening. The only way to stop this is strong executive action from the federal and state level. From the President/DOJ and Republican governors. Many Republicans moved to suburban and rural counties during the second half of the 20th century. There is no critical mass of Republican voters in any urban county in the US to stop this great injustice from happening. The public (outside Tucker Carlson Youtube viewers) does not know that Democrats are no longer just soft on crime, but they are pro violent criminal as well. For example, in Chicago, the one thing that actually worked to reduce crime was Shot Spotter. The new Marxist Democrat mayor Brandon Johnson got rid of it. Why would you get rid of Shot Spotter, the most effective crime suppression tool in Chicago history, if you are not pro-violent criminal?

It is beyond time to take both civil and criminal immunity away from judges in the US.

Make them carry insurance to cover it.
Make them personally responsible to the justice system and to a civil suit.

If the perp is not a threat, then the judge has nothing to worry about.

If the perp is a threat, then set the bail correctly.

Win - Win

Additionally, bail reform should classify Violent crime as a $100K or $250K minimum, repeat offender $X minimum, any felony $X minimum, etc. and take it out of the hands of liberal judges.

It was just dropped to $100 with the conditions that Morson wear a GPS monitor, remain under house arrest, and not contact the family of the victim or potential witnesses.
This isn't stupid.
It's evil. This is the kind of thing that will get more people killed.

You wonder why folks don't talk to police? It's because of **** liberal ******** DAs like this one.

He murdered someone, was arrested because there were witnesses who identified him, but i'm sure he won't contact any potential witnesses

You're entitled to immediate release on a PR bond or a severely reduced bond if the DA fails to indict within 90 days of your arrest. I wonder if that's what happened here?

Law Experts...

Is there any recourse for rogue DAs?

Can the state doing anything about it like they do with rogue school boards?

Could a law be passed for a State DA where cops could put these cases to a State DA that would over-rule the local DA who are NOT doing their jobs?

Surely something can be done or a law can be passed to bypass the liberal DA not doing their job.

And yes, I realize that is why there are elections, but 2 or 4 years is a long time to wait to fix it and it is not happening in Blue Counties...

Democrat Travis County DA Jose Garza loves violent criminals. Travis County was offered a moderate Democrat DA in the primaries last year who was endorsed by the liberal Austin bar association. The Marxist Democrat voters in Travis County decided on more race Marxism and crime.

I'm not sure I love full liability for bail crimes as it may result in excessive bail by risk averse judges. But I completely agree with the concept that judges should face consequences if they failed to protect the citizenry from foreseeable / predictable violence.

Like so many things: the devil's in the details.

There's a law that allows for a trial and removal of elected officials for dereliction of duty. But it's new and untested. It passed in late 2023 and I'm not sure it's ever been used or challenged/found to be constitutional.

Thanks for the links and responses. It looks like Paxton and Tx lawmakers are trying to do something at least.

This really is the voters fault as they keep voting these idiots into office.

If the criminals just killed democrats at least it would stop at some point.

Unfortunately criminals keep traveling to red areas and committing crimes there too.

What is the end-game for these activist judges? What do they get out of this?

I've tried to figure out who benefits, but it doesnt add up.

Even from Soros' perspective, if they want to inact the type of Great Re-Set type change they seem to promote, having criminals loose works against them. You'd think Soros would want his actions to fly under the radar....bring people in while we sleep, so to speak.

Who do these actions benefit?

Abbott might look at imposing a zoning or domain inconvenience. Those are Soros picks are they not.

A little more information on the actual shooting...

Of note:
A witness told investigators Morson shot Cage at close range following an argument about Cage allegedly cooperating with law enforcement in a previous case involving his ex-girlfriend.

Yup. Sounds like they released a real pillar of the community. Good Lord.

The problem lies with the electorate. You're going to have lawless judges when lawless people elect them. Most of Texas has good judges. Are we going to change the rules to account for the idiots that vote and bring problems on themselves?
