I agree and if something needs to be urgently sent just pay a higher fee to have it delivered on an off day. There should be certain things like official government documents, court documents, etc which should have prioritization. Everything else no daily delivery.

Three day a week delivery is a no-brainer. Anything more urgent is more reliably sent by FedEx anyway.

Remember when senators Pocahontas and Bernie wanted the USPS to offer banking services ? One of the most asinine suggestions ever.

Yup.
Trump can start by balancing the postal budget or coming close. Losing billions a year is just terrible.
Not many use postal services now like they did earlier so we can all do with less of it.

I know anytime I order something off of Amazon, and it's being sent by USPS, I can expect an extra 2-3 days at a minimum before I get the package.

I moved into a new to me house, and didn't get a mailbox key. Their ETA is 6 months to change my lock and get me a key. In the meantime they're holding my mail .... and I have to go get it from the post office. Shortest wait I've had is 1.5 hours and they also lose stuff that informed delivery says should be around. It's awful

I'm all for that!

Is mail delivery 6 days a week mandated by statute? Had no idea!

Yes it is.
At one time, mail was delivered 7 days a week, twice a day. They cut out Sunday and then the second delivery.

$0.73 for a first class stamp... 73 cents!

It should be 1/2 or more less to mail a 1 oz post.

Yea, I still mail out Christmas cards to friends and family. ... getting to the point that that's all I'll be gifting.

It went from TN to NC to Dallas to Amarillo to Louisiana to Ft Worth to me

We contacted our congressman because it got so bad in our neighborhood. An employee got fired and they kept the key. So the boxes get hit every week or so.

Some of the mail ended up in San Antonio, and we're in Katy.

One neighbor put a camera at one of the boxes and he was sent a cease and desist from the MUD so he had to take it down.

I make sure to check the mail often just in case. I was waiting on a vehicle title so I was checking every day. Apparently they are going to re-key the boxes but its going to take forever.

The MUD has no authority over federal mailboxes.

Why they were involved i have no idea.
In my neighborhood, the MUD owns the property that the mailboxes are on. Heck, our MUD owns and controls more property than the HOA does.

We've had people in our neighborhood get all pissed at the MUD because they haven't done anything and believe they should. People were screaming for security cameras but the MUD's lawyer said they cannot install cameras at the mailboxes. If I was betting man, it has something to do with privacy.

They could start by closing a lot of small rural post offices. There is an area in our county where there are 5 post offices within a 10 mile radius and no town with more than 1,000 people. My friend was post master in one of those offices for years, the only employee. He got to work at 7 am, sorted the mail into PO boxes by 8, then sat around all day in case someone came in to buy stamps.

190K in new employee while they modernized and automated a lot of what they do. They need a PE group to come in a run them for a couple of years and then put in on the open market.

Maybe there's a law around cameras and mail boxes then. That could be true.

I sent some DVDs of family photos to a cousin in Denver.

From Canyon to Amarillo to Boston, MA. They sat in Boston for a week. Finally to Denver.

Go back to the old days. Post offices were in people's houses, or at the general store. Postmasters took care of the mail, then did their other job. They were paid a little, but not much.

Kids Lacrosse gloves ordered on 1/31.
Promise Date for 2/6.
Shipped on 2/3 from Indiana.
Last Tracking Info 2/4 in Indiana.

Lost.

Got Credit from Academy on 2/13.
2/14 - Re-scanned in same location as 2/4.
Left facility 2/15, then to Dallas Area, then Houston area,
We received on 2/18.

15 days and they had to pay Academy for losing the shipment.

You could bike that far in 4 or 5 days.

(If Academy told me they were using USPS, never would have ordered from them. Academy had the gloves in 4 stores within 50 miles of me)

Yes, since 2022.

Quote:

Yes, according to the "Postal Service Reform Act" of 2022, there is a law stating that mail delivery must be six days a week in the United States; this means mail is delivered Monday through Saturday, excluding federal holidays and other specific circumstances.

A little bit of a derail, just a reminder of how things used to be:

DEAN POST OFFICE, DEAF SMITH COUNTY, TEXAS

....located in a caliche rock cave on the North bank of the Palo Duro Creek. Individual "boxes" were hand dug into the wall for the settlers in the area to come by and pick up their mail. This location is near the site of an old Indian campground and reliable live water spring.

The site made for a perfect resting point for horses and dependable water going from Amarillo area to Hereford.

Near the spring, two brothers by the name of Isaach built a two-room picket house (posts set in the ground, plastered with mud and roofed with sod). They eventually abandoned the house and in 1890 the Dean family occupied the house along with a tent which they had ordered from Montgomery Ward.

J.R. Dean was the first Deaf Smith County judge and his son, Thomas served as the first postmaster of this post office. The two postmasters that served there were Thomas H. Dean in 1892, and Edward H. Frillwood, 1895 until it was abandoned.

Anytime I order something online from out of state, it goes from origin to Houston, then to Austin (passing right by my address along the way), then to somewhere else in Austin, occasionally with a side trip to Killeen between the Austin stops, before arriving at the post office in my town.

I really wish these places would quit using USPS. Fed Ex and UPS do a much better job.

They do need to go to two or three days a week delivery. If you need something sooner, have it emailed to you or sent by Fedex, UPS, etc. Then, fire USPS employees to reflect the fewer mail delivery days and the need for fewer people.

The Post Office is nonsensical. Costs the same thing to mail a letter from Texas to Maine as it does to mail a letter to someone across the street. If you have a post office box, they charge you to have access to it, though the cost of delivering your mail is less than them hauling it all over town.

In our smallish town, the mail is collected, taken to the post office, then sent to a facility (in or near Houston) and I think sorted there and brought back to our small town if being sent to someone local. Used to, when I sent out invoices, I'd keep those going to people in town in a separate grouping from those going out of town and the post office people would eliminate the local envelopes being sent out of town and then back to town. But then they quit doing that.

These days my physical mails consists of:

60% business flyers
35% offer letters to refinance my home, cars, etc
5% legit mail, about 1 or 2 letters per month

So, yeah, if its a huge money pit, reduce the USPS delivery days.

My second job is as an operations mgr for a small waste mgmnt company. We see apt mail trash....apartments, mind you ....and they get roofing ads, new window ads and similar ads that make no sense to send to apartment dwellers.

Another form of government waste is antiquated laws requiring paper documentation. Just a massive waste of time and money for nothing. I get there are cases where someone doesn't have a computer or internet and we need to consider those circumstances but that's the exception and should be treated as such. Curious how much USPS volume is from this sort of mail.

MUD 151? It's because the board is weak and hides behind the advice of their counsel. There is zero reason they can't put cameras at the mailboxes. They're using the lawyers as an excuse to just not have to deal with it.

Keep delivery 6 days a week, but split it so that any 1 location only gets mail 3 days a week. Also increase the cost slightly for junk mail to keep the volume down just a little bit.

This would double the effectiveness of employees who do the "last mile" delivery work.

We got checks stolen from the office community mailbox (Lewisville), so I started having them delivered to my house.

Already had a check stolen as well as my W2 that my partner mailed me. Also had a reimbursement check stolen. Anytime relatives send a card with a check in it - stolen. This is in the Argyle 76226.

What happens when a check is stolen? I went to the Post Office to initiate the process. The front counter lady didn't like being accused, and the manager came out. He listened and then gave me a 1-800 number and told me to call them and file a case number online.

To date nothing has happened - zero follow up.

The checks stolen were cashed in Mississippi. Banks were able to claw back the money. Tried to file a police report in Lewisville as well as another business in my complex with the same issue. Police said we had to file the report in the city where they were cashed. Yeah right, like the Mississippi small town law is going to work that case.

In other words, it is the perfect crime.

My auto registration sticker was "lost" in the mail. When this happens one must go in person to local county tax accessor and pay an additional $8 for a replacement sticker. The Montgomery County tax office told me that they go through the Houston post office, and that they have been stealing them. It's apparently a well known racket yet nothing has been done to eradicate the thieves at USPS. Shut it all down!

Also, recently did a change of address and the driver's license has never been delivered even though the tracking information show that it was mailed. There are thieves in the USPS. Fact.

Pretty sure we're in the same zip. 77494?

Same zip here. Apparently our issue is that the postal worker was robbed of the community mailbox keys but they won't re-key them for fear of being "robbed" again. Guess it's fine for the customers to be robbed continually though...the post office is literally less than a mile from my house
