Fully agree with this. I am for equal opportunity - male or female. I even tell my teenage daughter not to expect any special privileges from the outside world just for being a woman (though I know she will get it).

I am not for special privileges for women just to get their numbers up. Some jobs need clear logical thinking - most women don't do well on those but if a rare woman is good at it, give the job to her (provided no one is better than her at it).

I saw the NYC video from a few years ago. However it was an adult woman, not a 11 year old. She was walking through shady areas. If I did the same I'd get mugged or shot. So I don't go there.

As to OP: women are wired to raise children and gather resources for their protection. Nesting, shopping, mate selection, sexual selectiveness, voting habits: behaviors which reflect (in part) hedging against vulnerability. So to them Daddy Government can appeal to base instincts as an another layer of protection of safety net.

Men on the other hand are rewarded for carving out their own piece of this world and holding it from potential threats. To men; powerful government is a potential threat.

More feelings at play

If someone is short, they should be told they cannot make it to the NBA. I wouldn't mind if I was in the situation. In fact I'd welcome it and not waste my time on a pointless endeavor. I call it good advice and mentorship. I've been told many times "dude... you suck at this..." and I've done the same to my male friends. No one got butt-hurt.

Imagine if someone were to go to a pickup basketball game and the first thing they say to a short person is "wow are you sure you know how to basketball?". Then after everyone on the court rightfully refuses to play with them, they go home wondering why everyone got so woke and emotional. This is the exact behavior of sexist conservatives.

Of course this is all generalities, so there are always exceptions. But in general, there are very good reasons why women tend liberal.

Jordon Peterson goes into this in depth. He is a clinical psychologist with thousands of hours providing therapy to women. Women are more liberal than men for a number of evolutionary reasons that have nothing to do with culture:

1) Women are more sexually vulnerable than men. They are not as physically strong as men. The risks of having unwanted sex is greater for women than men.

2) Because of this, women are more comfortable relying on others for help and protection. Men tend to be more independent.

3) Women are generally more agreeable than men. They are more willing to go along with the group than be a stand-out individual. More agreeable people tend to shift liberal. If you want to see the polar opposites of an agreeable vs disagreeable man, look at Trudeau vs Trump.

4) Women, once they hit puberty, have higher levels of anxiety and negative emotions. JP postulates, but has no proof, that this might be in part because of #1 above. Men with higher levels of anxiety and negative emotions are more likely to be liberal than men with lower levels of anxiety and negative emotions.

5) Women are more relationship based, and men are more results / thing based. When women get together they gossip. When men get together, they play sports, talk about sports, watch sports, blow things up, cook with fire, or endlessly make fun of each other in the crassest and most ruthless ways imaginable. Anything to prevent them from talking to each other about feelings or relationships. People that are more relationship as opposed to results focused tend to be liberal.

6) If it was a social construct thing, we would tend to see the disparity between party alignment and X chromosome counts to be smaller in more egalitarian societies, like Norway or Sweden. The opposite is true. X chromosome count is much more correlated with party identification in egalitarian societies.
