Bad
- Idea of using DOGE savings to give a refund.

I agree with OP. Would really like to leave a solvent country for my kids.....
The ones who want a $500-$1000 refund are the ones who have managed their finances poorly and live by the paycheck.
The ones who have managed it well don't care about a small refund. The refund is going to be small and in name only. It won't change anyone's life unless they are homeless.
I am okay with Trump giving a refund to people below a certain income limit though. It makes a big difference to them. It makes no difference to me and others who have managed things well.
You're missing the principle at stake here. It's why I'll never vote Democrat - they believe the taxes from the money you and I earn are theirs. Trump is trying to return the $s to those who actually paid into it.
I will never vote Dem either. I voted for Trump all 3 times.
However, I am also a realist. I don't blindly parrot "conservative policies" unless I think through them and they make sense to me. I am not a cultist, so someone making stuff up and calling it "conservative" won't sway me.
I actually think Trump should make a symbolic gesture of sending the saved money to pay down the debt. Yes, it may not make a big dent but it will convey that he is fiscally responsible. Just because we have some money freed up doesn't mean we distribute it and throw a party. That is how many in this country are in debt. They don't know what to do when they get a few extra bucks.
