You must not live in Houston.
Yeah but only a very low IQ brainwashed fruity white liberal male feminist would think the crime in Houston had ANYTHING whatsoever to do with open-carry or constitutional-carry laws.

I've seen very few. Used to know a guy that worked in small engine repair shop that always open carried but other than that, it's rare.

I have only seen 2 open carries since the inception. Both in the hill country. One had a Texas Ranger mustache.

The death rate did tick up, but all the unvaxxed died from Covid, so it went back down.

There are no Texas Ranger mustaches.

I am confident that I have posted how open carry is dumb for many reasons.

I take most of that back. While I still think it is nobody's business knowing I am packing heat, open carry has become more of a thing since the adoption of the 1911 and the tactical holster positioned under the waistline more on the thigh.

I will say, since the open carry became an actual thing, nobody (not in a literal sense) does it.

I see it all the time in west TX. But most around here aren't the type of people to make a big deal of it. I don't open carry, but no one I interact with on a daily basis would be offended if I did. Granted most are farmers and ranchers, oilies can't usually due to company rules.

I've considered amending our O&G lease to cover that. It currently allows ZERO firearms on operators or subcontractors persons or vehicles.
Since there have been several instances where the current MO to wait at closed gate and rob gauger and hijack his clothes, boots, phone, and vehicle is wets and coyotes new deal. Maybe we should insist that these folks carry so that if their employer disagrees and they get hurt or worse, I have tried to CMA.

I bet they be like "Don't ask don't tell" & your none the wiser.

I see it more out in rural areas.
So the greatest civilization is one where all citizens are equally armed and can only be persuaded, never forced. It removes force from the equation... and that's why carrying a gun is a civilized act.

Didn't realize it had been 9 years. I've literally seen one guy open carry and that was over New Years at my local fishing tackle store.

Open carry has had exactly 1 practical result: A guy who carries a concealed firearm is now less uptight about an inadvertent exposure of his sidearm in a sudden gust of wind.

Maybe there's a second result. Two or three guys have gone from carrying fully-concealed micro-frames to carrying sorta-concealed full-frames.

I've always said for chain style BBQ, Rudy's is pretty darn good.

When I first got to Iowa in 2006, I saw open carry and it never fazed me. But I'm not a giant 'nocha, so that helps.

Texas is late to the game.

I did see a guy at Rudy's BBQ with a gun on each hip and a massive knife in his belt on front. He was ready for anything!

Hope he was ready for average BBQ

I saw an old man with a snub nose revolver on his hip at lunch and a wanna be bandito carrying an 8" revolver in Hobby Lobby once. Scary times.

I was taking an undergraduate music class at a Juco around the time campus carry was being debated. One day in class, the discuss drifted to a more political bent. The class had roughly 20 people, 60/40 female, and other than the instructor, I was by far the oldest. I asked, collectively, what their fear was. Most of the responses were canned leftist nonsense. The prof, a lib but not a raging lunatic, said she feared accidents and such. I asked for a show of hands of all those older than 21. About 15 raised their hands, so I pointed out that a quarter of the class wouldn't be carrying at all.

I then asked if those that were against it had actually fired a weapon. Everyone responded no. I asked the prof about what kind of accidents she was afraid of, and of course, it boiled down to the dropping of the gun or accidentally going off. I corrected the record on that. Unfortunately, people believe everything they see on TV and in movies.

I told the class of my experience getting held up and how the last thing the perp did was tell me to get down on the floor. I said I would NEVER have that happen again as I was afraid he was going to shoot me. I may or may not engage someone with a weapon, but I'm not going to go down without a fight and want the most odds in my favor. Either way, I wanted the choice. Campuses (campi?? -- J/K) are soft targets and must be hardened.

Decade or two of results: NO profs shot; NO accidents (that I'm aware of); few, if any, incidents.

The real question is whether one should get license to carry even if open carrying?

While it may not be necessary, I understand that with the permit there are some places that you can carry with a LTC but not without.

many years ago I was in the patch but never on my mineral interests. Still, I ran into friends on my mineral interests and knew damn well that they were carrying. Even knew what they were carrying at times.
Still my reasoning is that I don't want to be liable but more importantly the rancher that demanded a hand could not defend themself. We have much coyote activity coming through.

I was an electrician in the early to mid 1980s. We always carried in our truck when going out on locations. Always a side arm or two but often .22 rimfire rifles because work might pause for an hour or two and there were always squirrels in the woods. I remember one location around Donie that had "no firearms etc.." signs every 100 yards or so into the rig.

Many of the completion guys carried handguns in car but had pellet guns and would bait a corner of locations and shoot Quail. It's on south Texas about 15 miles from Mexico. Also in 80's.
