I was taking an undergraduate music class at a Juco around the time campus carry was being debated. One day in class, the discuss drifted to a more political bent. The class had roughly 20 people, 60/40 female, and other than the instructor, I was by far the oldest. I asked, collectively, what their fear was. Most of the responses were canned leftist nonsense. The prof, a lib but not a raging lunatic, said she feared accidents and such. I asked for a show of hands of all those older than 21. About 15 raised their hands, so I pointed out that a quarter of the class wouldn't be carrying at all.
I then asked if those that were against it had actually fired a weapon. Everyone responded no. I asked the prof about what kind of accidents she was afraid of, and of course, it boiled down to the dropping of the gun or accidentally going off. I corrected the record on that. Unfortunately, people believe everything they see on TV and in movies.
I told the class of my experience getting held up and how the last thing the perp did was tell me to get down on the floor. I said I would NEVER have that happen again as I was afraid he was going to shoot me. I may or may not engage someone with a weapon, but I'm not going to go down without a fight and want the most odds in my favor. Either way, I wanted the choice. Campuses (campi?? -- J/K) are soft targets and must be hardened.
Decade or two of results: NO profs shot; NO accidents (that I'm aware of); few, if any, incidents.
