Or he's simply wanting additional security guarantees. You'd want the same.

Yes what a tyrant for…checks notes…following his parliament and the Ukrainian constitution.

There's a very easy way to get an election scheduled - Putin can end his war.

He's not going to get any guaranties. I would think Trump will take the security assurances route as we have done previously with plenty of discretion on our end about what situations we would intervene in.

Ukraine cannot be trusted, so we should not ever give them a security guaranty nor have any treaty whatsoever with them.

Does anyone know where Ukrainian rare earths are located. I have read various articles but are not very enlightening. All somewhat vague.

Can Russia be trusted?

What's in it for Ukraine? Because without security guarantees it's just a surrender. So why do they need a "deal" with Trump surrender? They can do that without him.

Might as well go Afghanistan route and bleed Russia in asymmetrical warfare until they quit.

If we have mineral rights to Ukraine and they end up being vitally important….may be easy justification for us to make sure those resources are protected and safe.

…..you can see where this could end up at.
But we've been told repeatedly that Ukraine has nothing of economic interest to the US…….

The thought is that if we have known and legitimate strategic interests in Ukraine and a peace deal is made Russia would not be able to attack Ukraine without the US legitimately intervening.

It is a way to clawback some of the hundreds of billions sunk into that cesspool and at the same time deter Russia in the future from another incursion because then the US would have a legitimate reason to get heavily involved.....and accomplishing that level of deterrence without putting NATO in their backyard.

It's a win all around for everyone.

And Russia gets to claim some level of victory and exit with its pride intact. A perfect golden bridge for everyone.

And still dumbasses on here are complaining about it.

People should have realized that Trump himself doesn't embrace the traditional ideas of conservative vs liberal.

Quote:

"People say, 'you're conservative,' I'm not conservative, you know what I am, I'm a man of common sense and a lot of conservative policies are common sense," Trump said while appearing on CNBC's Squawk Box.

Those labels should be retired. Liberals certainly on liberal when they call for daddy government to control you.

I pretend DEM now stands for Deviant Elitist Masochists and it works better for me.
That's a very good point. And its not even necessarily bad Trump isn't a conservative in the vein of a Bush41 or 43. They were not especially effective in defending against Left erosion of culture. This super corrupt system at present need a wrecking ball backed by more than half the country and that is what have. Bongino has a good description of Trump -- he is transaction or deal oriented - outcome oriented. More often than not it does work better in a non homogenous nation than a more purist approach.

As for liberals, its a mistake to even call presently elected Democrats or the Left liberal at all. One of the traits of liberals (think Haight-Ashbury, etc) is anti-statist power. The reaction to Bush43 overreach in the GoT was the last signs of that kind of liberalism.

Agree with your assessment. Was never a proponent of getting involved but the outcome you've laid out here is the most realistic and best outcome we could hope for once Biden gave Putin the green light to invade and after he committed us to fund Ukraine's resistance... and assuming everyone signs off.

Zelensky told Trump and Rubio he would do the deal since it serves in the best interest of both countries and 2 days later Zelensky was on TV saying he tore it up in front of their faces.

Exactly. Its the only kind of deal that sometimes doesn't lead to just another war. Versailles almost directly caused World War II for any who just look at it honestly.

Well now a future attack by Russia would be an attack on US economic interests. They might think twice before starting the next fight.
He probably wouldn't have if this had been in place back when he decided to invade. Smart chess move by Trump.
