Think Abbott will try to wait until the November date for a special election? HE can do so in May or November.....
He might be able to call the special election for May 3rd. It's tight, but doable.McInnis 03 said:

In that district does it even matter when the election is? Result will be the same, no?Ryan the Temp said:He might be able to call the special election for May 3rd. It's tight, but doable.McInnis 03 said:

Shorter timelines favor career politicians and people with a lot of money. There could be better candidates who could benefit from more time to spin up a campaign operation.aggiehawg said:In that district does it even matter when the election is? Amanda Edwards is probably the best equipped to hit the ground running, but since Texas does not have primaries for these types of elections, one Republican running against 15 Democrats has an outsized chance of being successful.
I don't know about hated, but he did have some issues with them as I recallBCSWguru said:

There would be a runoff, but a special election runoff in an odd-numbered year with nothing else on the ballot and no municipal election in November is more favorable for Republicans if they can get their **** together in the district and be motivated.BMX Bandit said:
doesn't it still require a majority, or there is a runoff?
there is no chance any republican gets over 50% no matter how large the field
If we can get it in May by itself we may be able to sneak someone in. Does it have to be a democrat, or is it a true election?aggiehawg said:In that district does it even matter when the election is? Like slashing their pensions and giving money to the police instead. They were half Buzbees campaign staff for the runoff.Cinco Ranch Aggie said:I don't know about hated, but he did have some issues with them as I recallBCSWguru said:

Sadly, I'd say the odds of that are as likely as Hillary being elected president one day.Quote:

It's basically come one, come all. There's no partisan primary.Bondag said:If we can get it in May by itself we may be able to sneak someone in. "more favorable" meaning 'maybe get 40%"?Ryan the Temp said:There would be a runoff, but a special election runoff in an odd-numbered year with nothing else on the ballot and no municipal election in November is more favorable for Republicans if they can get their **** together in the district and be motivated.BMX Bandit said:

But if a Republican were to eek out a win in a special election, they would still lose in 2026.

Turner was a horrible mayor for Houston and has been a horrible politician his entire life. He made a lot of horrible decisions that were not good for his constituents. It's understandable that some people aren't terribly compassionate.
Not being upset that he died and wishing him death/celebrating it are two different things.
But he has died and he's in God's hands now, so it is done. If only we all could all be as pious you are …on a political forum.
