It's half the sentence or 30 years whichever is less. So if they sentenced him to 80 years he would be eligible in 30.
This is kind of where I stand. I think they're saying he has to serve half but I have a weird feeling he'll be out in less.

Had to serve minimum half.
Probably have to be a choir boy to get first shot parole
OK, yes sorry I caught up with everything. He'll still only be 36 by the time he gets out but he'll be a very different person. I really think he thought he was going to walk or get a very light sentence before the trial started. Once it started going the way it did. I hope he prepared himself.
Hopefully there won't be any riots.
The tweets saying his heads down, shaking uncontrollably... The FO phase is not sitting well with him
The fact that he clearly wasn't at all prepared for this is the most concerning part for me. I'm sure his attorneys tried to warn him and the family that the case against him was strong and prison time was almost assuredly inevitable. The fact that they refused to listen shows a level of disconnect that should concern everyone.

35, will have to serve 17.5 before parole eligibility. I think this was a good outcome for Anthony. He will have a shot at living a life after getting out.
Hopefully he will be killed in prison.

Slap on the wrist. Guess I'll take it. Still feel gutted for Austin's parents. Pray for no parole.

Gut wrenching, could have been any of the parents of kids under that tent.
Hunter Metcalf asked Karmelo Anthony to look at him during this victim impact statement.

“If you could just look me in the eye while I speak, I would really respect that,” Hunter said.
Karmelo looked down the entire time Austin spoke.

Dad obviously didn't consult polyn cam prior to his statement.

Wow. Not much else to say after that.

All things considered he got off pretty easy. Assuming he behaves himself he'll be out before he's 40.
Hopefully he finds god or meaning or something in there and can do something with the second half of his life.

Wanted life with no parole. Hate crime is what would have done it but somehow our fair justice system doesn't include violence against whites as "hate".

This is overthinking it, black kids kill other black kids just as flippantly all the time. Way more often in fact.
This was an impulsive act of violence by someone trying to "keep it real" and believing he was defending his reputation. He wasn't gonna be made to leave by anyone. If a black kid on the track team had done it we'd likely be in the exact same spot just with little to no media interest. I think the assumption that he stabbed Metcalf because he was white is both unfounded and missing the point.

He'll need to do more than just behave to be out by 40. If he's a model prisoner he may get out at 25 years of his 35.
